General Antonio Luna (John Arcilla), commander of the revolutionary army, is spoiling for a fight. After three hundred years as a Spanish colony, the Philippines must endure a new foreign power: the United States of America. General Luna wants to fight for freedom but members of the elite want to strike a deal with the Americans. The infighting is fierce in the new cabinet but General Luna and his loyal men forge ahead even as his military decisions are met with resistance from soldiers who are loyal only to President Aguinaldo (Mon Confiado). Ultimately, it is the general’s legendary temper and pride that bring him to his death when a pack of presidential guards assassinate him in broad daylight. While American newspapers blame Aguinaldo, the mystery of General Luna’s assassination was never completely solved and his killers never put to justice.

Directed by Jerrold Tarog

I hope Filipino Filmmakers make more of these kind of Movies. Movies that are dark, serious and meaningful. A difference among the abundance of cheesy Filipino Drama, Action, and Comedy Films. Kahit paminsan-minsan lang, ang mga pelikula natin ay nararapat magbigay ng emosyonal at intelektual na karanasan sa mga manonood.
  • I am Indonesian, and I shed a tear when seeing this movie. I respect the struggle of my fellow South East Asian brothers. The ending was heartbreaking enough for me to be patriotic about someone who even isn't my fellow Indonesians. Thank you for whoever making this movie. Love from Indonesia 🇮🇩 Edit : 4.7k likes? Looks like you guys really like the moment when foreign people like me watching this movie eh? I tried to watch Goyo but cannot find subtitles for some reason, anyone knows where to watch Goyo?

I cried like an idiot. It hurts a lot. Beautiful yet excruciating.

So Juan Luna painted the iconic 'Spoliarium' years before the killing of his brother Antonio Luna, yet the scene where the bodies of AL and his soldier were dragged to the side of the building were similar to that depicted in the painting. Great artistry there. This is the scene that pulled most at my heart strings. Stunning and dark at the same time.

The real problem is they don't wanna agree and work with one solution. Every body wants their own solutions to be followed!! It's real that divided We Fall! 😢

It is hard to find a person who's willing to sacrifice himself for the benefit of the many. Luna will always be the real hero for me. He is indeed a hero.
  • Yung may issue ngayon sa WPS tapos nanuod ka nito, sa kabilang banda nakakaawa talaga ang mga Pilipino sa kamay ng Gobyernong meron tayo.

Hi , i'm from Indonesia I'm so interest to study about philipines history of indepence during spanish and american occupation I watched the movie story line from Bonifacio (sadly no subtitle 😂) until General Goyo But .. Especially this General Antonio Luna , what a bravery General and smart strategy maker but sadly got betrayed by their own countrymen .. Any filipino friend can tell me where's his grave , so i can pay my respect to this general . Salute from Indonesia to my philipines neighbor 🇵🇭🇮🇩

The fact that Heneral Luna got killed by the men wearing the same uniform his brother designed and Heneral Luna paid for... heartbreaking.
  • I just realized that Heneral Luna's tactic on war against Americans has been effective and succeeded in today's Taliban's war with the Americans in Afghanistan. What a brilliant general. If only he was not murdered by traitors.
  • The ideas of the film were unique and it was not dull. It was definitely an eye opener for me. Some of the historic films I have watched gradually gets gradually boring that's why I was not really a fan of such genres. However, after watching heneral luna (and goyo) because our teacher told us to do so, it definitely changed my views on these kind of films. I have learned a lot about how Filipinos fought for independence and how some Filipinos fought for their own, selfish desires. Kudos to all the casts that brought justice to their characters! Hoping to see more of films related to the Philippines history!!!
