It's a fact of modern life that we need an endless supply of products… and, rather than being a functional process, the act of going shopping is enjoyable for most people. This has led to the development of the Mall, a site where you'll find various different types of stores so a wide range of products is available under one roof… but, while your local one may seem big enough, it’s nothing compared to the biggest ones in the world. Now evolving beyond providing a shopping experience, they have now become fully fledged entertainment destinations… which include theatres, and even theme parks. It’s time, then, to tour the globe to visit the top 15 largest shopping malls around the world.

  • Actually, the Philippine huge malls are the first huge malls in the world, as they were already there since mid-1980s. Including the very first 5-Star Hotel Shang-rila with a 4-floor mall inside the building and it is just beside the very huge SM Megamall and they were already built there since the mid-1980s. The best thing is late 1970s or 1980s Iranian students are already studying in the Philippines with different major courses. They like this kind of mall. I am sooo happy that Iran have the world's largest and luxurious malls in the world today and that we share the same quality of malls and we love Iranians so much!!! One Asia! One People! One Love!

Having traveled the world in my military career the two most impressive for shopping was one in Hong Kong that just was decades before we have what that had 20 years ago it was just amazing. There were robots, and the displays and the cleanliness and the size was breath taking. There was another one in the middle east too I think in Bahrain it was crazy but it was super SUPER expensive. But they had everything a pool, an ice skating rink it had ice cream and the gold shops were great, I watched TITANIC there my first time and you picked your seats and they brought your drinks and popcorn TO YOUR SEAT it was that nice but you paid for it indeed. Those are the two I remember most there were others but not at the level of those two.

Many malls and shopping centers in Iran are not primarily constructed for tourism or need & supply. They are often funded by banks issuing money unrestrainedly. Instead of investing in industries that desperately need low-interest loans, these funds are directed towards constructing mega-projects backed by banks themselves and don't seem to be profitable even in the long term. The properties surrounding these projects are then sold at inflated prices. Meanwhile, the nation suffers from rampant inflation due to this endless cycle of money creation, corruption and unprofitable ventures. I think this squandering of resources could and should have been used to invest in vital projects such as seawater desalination plants, solar or nuclear power plants or to revive the struggling car industry, I don't know, anything useful...

The Philippines is a good place to set up malls, too, because of its hot weather. Besides that, Filipinos are good spenders, and they will splurge their money for brands anytime for their many never-ending occasions such as weddings, birthdays, house blessings, neighbor's birthdays/weddings, fiestas, 18 year old debut, 1 year old baby, farewell parties, school graduations, board exam passing celebrations, Christmas, New Year celebrations, etc. Trust me, they'll celebrate all, which means spending those hard earned buck in, you guessed it, inside those wealthy people owned malls.
