Just wanted to say thank you. You inspired me to get into boat building and ive just restored an old sea snark as my first boat. Without your videos i would have been absolutely lost in the dark. My sea snark looks brand new and sails wonderfully. Thank you wise boat wizard✌️

I had a Snark and a Wildflower. Great little boats.

Hopefully these to stay together my phone was full of water boat worried about 1,000,000 pounds put it on the top of my buddies car and it crush the roof but boy did we have a lot of fun
  • This is fantastic! I have an all-foam Snark just like this that I plan to repair and glass. I’m taking careful notes on your progress.

How do you one of these when I was a young kid about 16 years old went all over the place with on the Great Lakes never knew what it was called. Didn’t know it was a sailboat as they cut the inside of it out of it and put an engine on it and runs pretty good with the motor on it covered the outside with fiberglass because it had no plastic left when I got it. Had a lot of fun in that little boat.

Carpenter Ants and/or wasps will move into styrofoam left on the ground, making tunnels and nesting chambers... especially if it’s near or resting on damp rotten wood.

Looks like mice or moles or even bees were under the cladding
  • Pill Bugs eat styrofoam and they are small enough to get inside the seams and the centerboard trunk.
  • I bought mine for $35 in 2000. I am going to donate it to a local BSA troop.

I am using my old rescued Snark as a kayak and it’s awesome and unsinkable! Question 🙋‍♀️ what’s the weight difference when you were done? Was it heavier or about the same?
  • @davewenner156
Recently passed on an old gal that could have used you. Wasn’t waterlogged, still light, but several cracks, missing chunks, till plate rotted out. I hated to leave her but don’t have the resources or experience you do!
  • Great video, I have a Jetwind 14, it was made by Snark and sold by Sears. I joined a few FB groups for small sailboats and there are lots of questions about how to deal with Snark foam boats. What do you use to fill divots/holes, and how to deal with the cracked or broken plastic shell. My biggest fear is if I try to fiberglass the bottom the epoxy will eat the foam. Did you keep a list of products you used?
  • Thanks for making these videos, Chuck. The Snark I'm hoping to restore doesn't have the interior plastic cover that yours has. Would you recommend just glassing in the interior? I got mine for free as well, and I learned that back in the 1970s one could mail in a certain number of UPCs from cartons of Kool cigarettes to get a promotional model.
  • Just bought one at a thrift store for $20.00. Where is a good place to get parts for these? Thanks

Hi and thank you for this great channel! I have a question; i recently found a few SunFlowers but the where much much heavier then 22kg. In this video you mention ; ‘whaterlogged’. Is it possible to Peel of the plastic skin in order to reduce weight. And how many kg’s do you win by doing so?
