This occurred during the November of 2013 in Kerala. In this close up of my courtyard floor, the white pebble sized pieces are actually ice. You can also see them randomly falling here and there. This phenomena where ice pellets accompany rain is called sleet. In Malayalam these ice pellets are called 'Aalippazham'.
