A short look at Need for Speed Unbound with driving effects turned off.
Lights trails, nos effects, and white ''air lines'' from other player cars were left on by choice.
Effects were removed via 3rd party tool.

Update

With patch 5.1.0 they have added the option to turn effects off in the game.
Go to your ''Driving Effects'' and in ''Tags'' equip ''Original'' (very first in the list)

I honestly really like these effects, but an option to turn them off completely would be nice

I understand devs have put lots of work into these beautiful affects But I agree an on/off option Would be nice

bro had the asap rocky horn on😭 all you hear is: "beep." "beep beep." throughout the video.

As a motion graphic and vfx designer/editor I really appreciate the work they put into, you can tell that the vfx and all visual elements are top notch, but they do feel out of place
  • I like how the taillights still have a tail effect when others are turned off

Honestly I wasn't bothered by the effects during gameplay despite not really liking them at first. However now that I've seen how clean the game can look - especilly while drifiting- I really want the option to turn them off too. Criterion Games are on a pursuit - no pun intended- to make NFS great again and they've got my full support as long as they keep experimenting these little things while delivering where it matters the most - physics, progression, graphics.

I am just amazed that someone in that kind of a company thought these effects would be awesome and they actually agreed with that idea.
  • the effect of the rear lights seems beautiful to me, it was something that I liked from NFS MW '05, On the other hand, the effects for now are fine because the gameplay was missing something so that it would not be so empty because honestly the simple and empty screen makes you feel as if you were just playing for the sake of playing and not having fun but with these effects at least for a while that can change, and later these effects will hate each other because honestly they are not consistent with the game at all

I feel like the normal tire smoke should be more dense which would be cool
  • This should be a toggle option. Also a different option should be added called "Reduced". I like the effects but they can be a bit much at times. So a Reduced options where they don't get repeated a ton and smoke effect is off would be good.

You answered my #1 bro.... Thank you, I'm glad that I have the option to turn off those effects
  • I personally love the stylization of characters and effects in the game/ environments, but they should have an option to turn them off if people aren't a fan of the style

I love how no one’s talking about the constant asap Rocky’s “beep beep” lmao

If you turn off the effects , this game feels like old school most wanted and it gives a creepy nostalgia. Like they’ve had this game made already for years but just enhanced graphics, and elements, updated skins to new vehicles . I wondered why the camera angle and the physics of the driving felt VERY old but enhanced to have more control and do the newer things they’ve implemented. There’s even a few races that are very similar to the paths just that the scenery has seemed to be reskinned
  • I like how everytime you honk the asap horn it changes from on & off 😂

Tail light trails must stay on no matter what

I wasn't a fan at first but they've really grown on me. I like how it provides an indicator for the boost being full without having to look away
