  • I decided to remake the (very bad) FriendTech video i made back in 2015 as i didnt feel like it as very good. I hope everyone enjoys this update. Have a great week!

I don't do a whole lot of modding or emulation, but for some reason this stuff just interests me to no end. I love this channel.
  • @maksuree
imagine a modern console being this user-serviceable. that's the dream right there.

Great to know KODI has its roots in the Xbox modding scene. I love it. It's so amazing that nowadays it can run on a Raspberry Pi 3B powered by one of the TV's USB ports

Then in 2013, Microsoft went too hard with making the Xbox a all-in-one media center....

I made that patcher! Weird to see in your video, but I'm sure there was a dreamX patch on xbins that was more suited to that particular xbox? That's where I got the idea.. I did have a patch for the GTA games for 1.4ghz aswell (they had some extra codes in there) but I never made the executable it was just a bunch of hex values

Not used my Xbox in years and never knew about the clock capacitor problem. Thanks to your video I've now removed it and the Xbox still works great, thankfully only a tiny bit of leakage. Booted straight back into xbmc! Brings back some memories! Great channel!
  • @Thebossstage1
Watching the Xbox getting cleaned is weirdly satisfying
  • @EposVox
I somehow completely missed this video when it went up lol. I do find the "they should have focused on the media player aspect, too focused on games" quote amusing given the Xbox One's launch
  • @RETROCUTION
Denatured alcohol can also be used to neutralize the leakage from the capacitor, and is much easier and cleaner than mixing up baking soda and water.
  • @MrMario2011
This thing is awesome, I had only heard of these upgrades but never knew about what Friendtech did. Do you remember the pricing on these?

I've learned more about the original xbox from you than from any other source, and I've been an xbox fan since the beginning, and have owned a modded original xbox for about 12 years. Most of this stuff I didn't even know existed, yet somehow you not only know about it, but own it, and know all the ins and outs. You are a treasure to the gaming community, sir, not just for vintage stuff but modern as well. Please keep up the great work. I look forward to your videos every week!

"tempatures di not go much higher than 130 degrees" me, and European: NO WHAT THE HELL THAT IS HELL ON E- ... Oh right fahrenheit, I can wipe the sweat.
  • @Magnumi
Thanks for telling about the clock capacitor! I've got 3 original Xbox consoles that will get a checkup due to this!
  • For anyone else accustomed to the graphics of the PS2 half-life console port, that must be the most god damned smooth I've ever seen Half-Life one on a console.

One thing I noted when you listed the machine spec is that if you could install Windows 98 on it that would be pretty much perfect for the level of hardware as standard.
  • @mrratchet
Your channel has quickly become one of my favourites. I absolutely love the modding/emulation talk, especially the Xbox. Takes me back, that's for sure, though I screwed up and didn't back up the Xbox Dash like a noob so i'm permanently on UnleashX. To this day I haven't figured out how to get the old dash back, as well as the modded dashboards. Ah well, it was a learning experience way back then.
  • @NEOGEOJunkie
Nice! I had never heard of the friendtech upgrades, but I did increase my ram. These look awesome!
  • @ObsidionshadowX
"Too focused on the games." Wish we could say the same about games nowadays.
  • @DaussPlays
Great video. You can still buy an upgraded original xbox from N64 Freak by the way if this video has you intrigued. I think he's the only person still making them though.
