America The Story of Us is an epic 12-hour television event that tells the extraordinary story of how America was invented. With highly realistic CGI animation, dramatic recreations and thoughtful insights from some of America’s most respected artists, business leaders, academics and intellectuals, it is the first television event in nearly 40 years to present a comprehensive telling of America’s history. Elaborate, ambitious and cinematic, America The Story of Us will take you into the moments when Americans harnessed technology to advance human progress, from the rigors of linking the continent by transcontinental railroad–the internet of its day–to triumphing over vertical space through the construction of steel structured buildings to putting a man on the moon. It is an intensive look at the people, places and things that have shaped our nation, and the tough and thrilling adventure that is America’s 400-year history.

My teachers would always play this in class when there was a sub or they were really hungover and I would always take a nap during it. Now that that I watch it on my own time I find these feats remarkable.

  • The greatest of the Americans history I'm glad to learn how the American Started.
  • I am an first generation immigrant to the USA. I am grateful to live here. I do not (by no means) adopt all ideologies or values, but I believe our founding fathers had good intentions even in their flawed humanity.
  • Great documentary. I have one question: why is this series about The USA always giving distances in metrics we don't use here? I know both, but if it is about us, it should maybe reflect us. And, I think both metrics are important for the world to learn. I also admit, metric is easier, but learning a second language helps you learn your own better. I think the same is true with metrics.

It would have been a greater documentary if this highlighted the major contributions of African Americans, Lewis Lattimore was the real savior of the light bulb, Granville T Woods was the real savior of electricity and communications, Elijah McCoy with the railways, Benjamin Banister with Mass production, Bass Reeves who's the real lone ranger and opened up the western territory, the black railway workers who were the majority of the workers that built the railways etc, etc, etc

As far as the Texas oil well discovery, why no mention of Titusville, Pennsylvania? I still remember when i was in high school a long time ago, having to do a paper on Edwin Drake in 1859 digging the oil well in Titusville and starting the oil industry.
