this is the kind of movie you accidentally watched as a kid, forgot about, and thought was a fever dream until you re-discover it again 20 years later
  • @sofiawhyte2730
This was my favourite as a child but it still feels like a fever dream
  • @SlayerOfTears
"Simon, don't you want to know where this goes?"
    "Not really."

Kid is a whole mood, lol.

Personally I love the fact that they knew the dad wouldn't say he loved him there. It's my favorite thing in these types of stories where it's not "the magic fairies fixed our broken family" but "the magic fairies helped us process the problems in our family so we can accept it as it is"
They didn't get their dad back, but the kids did end up with a different dynamic that no longer required the dad to come back and "save" his son

Did nobody read the books!? They were AMAZING. Not just well written but also beautifully styled with pencil drawn artworks that immersed you so deeply

I don’t remember jared having a twin in this movie. Completely 100% forgot that.

I was obsessed with Spidwewick as a child. I watched the movie, read all the books, had the feild guide and talked about it pretty much non-stop. 😂

Out of all the fantasy films that came in the wake of Rings/Potter, Spiderwick Chronicles is the one I feel is the most underrated. Whereas so many other were bogged down with too much setup for sequels that never happened, Spiderwick was like "yeah, we're going to explain the world, tell a complete story, have an emotional heartbeat and be a thrill-a-minute all in less than two hours." And boy, did they pull it off.
  • The concept of stepping away from a line and the monsters will get you was so terrifying to me as a kid

“ he loves trains and legos and hates social interaction. What could that possibly mean? It’s 2008, no body cares. “ that killed me.
  • @SeanA099
They absolutely wanted to get Dylan and Cole Sprouse, but Nick couldn’t get them because they belonged to Disney

This movie SHAPED MY CHILDHOOD HOW DARE YOU YOU SAY IT’S FORGETTABLE
  • @eli4s740
I'm surprised you didn't mention the scene where Mallory's hair got tied to the bed. That scene terrified me as a kid and It's still the first thing I think about whenever I remember the film.
Also people referring to the actor as the "good doctor" dude and not Charlie from Charlie and the chocolate factory hurts my soul.
  • Hey I remember watching this as a kid! I loved it when I was little. My mind was blown away that Jared and Simon were played by the same kid. I didn’t even know it was possible!

...I miss having that childhood wonder.
  • @NeuroSurge
This movie legitimately traumatized me as a kid. I remember being terrified that there was something in my walls. The goblins didn't scare me it was just the fact something could be in my walls.

Besides being kinda violent for a kids' movie, it also had the balls to address divorce in a mature way and realistically depicted the hurt that the father caused his children by essentially abandoning them. Lots of other movies at the time were fine with divorce being depicted as something the kids just needed to suck up and get over for the plot to happen. Here the son lets out all his anger and confusion by literally stabbing his good for nothing "father". Kinda heavy stuff.
  • @geardog24
“I just wanted to tell you I love you.”

    “Wrong answer!” 🔪

Pretty badass for a kid’s movie.
  • @8anime8
For so long, I thought this movie was a nightmare when I was a kid. Until I walked in on my sibling watching it one day, I was so confused that day
  • The amount of nostalgia I’m getting from watching this is crazy. I used to love this movie but that being said, it scared the absolute shit out of me. And it was on my mind ALL the time
