In this video I make some vegetarian nitroglycerin and biodiesel from vegetable oil while explaining the reactions and making a lot of forbidden foods for some reason.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME !!!
This video is for educational purposes only, I made it just to showcase the synthesis and I am NOT accepting the responsibility if someone decides to recreate it and harms themselves.

Warning: Nitroglycerin is extreme, blah blah blah try this at home.

"nitric and sulfuric acid are corrosive" "methanol is toxic" "dont try this at home" Well there goes my plans for the evening

Next video: Making plutonium fuel rods (don't try this at home)

I went to high school in the 80s and we nitrided quite a few things in chemistry class. We made celluloid, the stuff AC/DC wrote a song about and , of course, the heart medicine. It was fun. And the tests we did afterwards in the yard nearly knocked the windows out of the school building. Fun times. Too bad all the generations after 1970 missed out on absolutely all the fun in education. Love your videos, btw. Way underrated channel!!!

I ran a biodiesel rig down in Peru for about three months. We heated the (filtered) used cooking oil in a recycled (~40 gallon) water heater. With enough time in that stage you can boil off any water that's in the oil. I then added both a measured amount of methanol and lye and let that heat some more. The water heater assembly had a clear tube connection below it which allowed the glycerine to be dropped out of the mixture. Using a complicated system of pumps, the biodiesel then goes to the first of three bubble tanks. Each cleaning stage was in an approximately 65-gallon tank with a typical aquarium air bubbler at the bottom. Once it's made the rounds it's then ready to be stored in a 55-gallon drum. We ran the volunteer truck on 100% biodiesel and it ran just fine. The glycerine then is stored and turned into soap in a different process.

Yay, another video to cement my place on one or more watchlists.

I dont understand, that someone with such interesting videos only has 16,5k subs. You deserve so much more than that. The videos are interseting, and entertaining.
  • I can’t wait to replicate this at home as soon as my mom leaves for work.

The headache you get from inhaling the fume of nitroglycerin is freaking strong, multiple times stronger than not having coffee for a day (As a coffee addict). Another tip for testing any energetic compound is to tape the confined aluminium foil on the hammer instead, so you don't have to aim.

I definantly didn't download this video.

SO I saw this in my feed and immediately assumed it was a Nile Red video. It's cool to see someone else doing some crazy stuff like this.

Nice video! To remove water from the glycerin a vacuum distillation works perfect. Low heat and the water comes over first. When no more water comes over youre done. I use a short path distillation aparatus because it's less work with the setup and less glasswork to clean afterwards.

This was a fun video to watch. But all of your videos are really fun to watch. I'm really glad that I found your channel!

Biodiesel was one of the first chemical experiments i showed my seven year old nephew. Forgot to mention you could use the glucerin to make stuff go boom (:

Glycerin is quite sweet! It's one of the two main components of eliquid (or "vape juice", if you will) which is a big reason why almost all flavors are sweet. Also, fog machines 😝
