In 1 Corinthians 10:12 it says, “For we do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves they have no understanding or they are not wise.” You are correct by saying, there are good comparisons and not good comparisons. If we want to better ourselves we should not compare ourselves with ourselves, we should compare ourselves to see if we measure up with someone more wise. How do we compare to Yeshua? We should strive to be more like Him therefore we should compare and practice to walk in a more perfect way like Him. Just like your friend’s handwriting skills, you compared your handwriting to hers and saw how your handwriting could be better so you practiced her way and you became better.
