What is it like being chronically ill and disabled on booktube? || Answering your questions! 💕

Published 2021-07-24
This video is quite different from my other videos... I don't really talk about books that much, but I would still really appreciate it if you guys watched it! I put a lot of effort into even if it doesn't seem like that.

It was quite nice doing this video because I felt like I got a lot of things off my chest. So if you guys want me to do a video like this again in the future where I answer more of your questions, definitely let me know!

Ahh so many good questions got asked! My mind went blank when I saw the question box so I only managed to scrape one question out of my brain 😅 I'll need to check out those youtubers you mentioned! Also I've always wanted to tell you this but I love your long hair, it's so pretty I'm jealous 🤭 and thank you for answering my question! This was super interesting to watch! And don't worry about how long the video turned out, I actually love longer videos haha 🥰❤️

This is great! It's nice to see more disabled content creators on this platform. ♥️
  • Such an interesting video! I feel you on not being able to do much the days before filming. I have that too (though not being in physical pain, it is more to do with my mental energy and sensory overload). Big hug. Washing my hair is okay for me, but my partner, who is also disabled and in chronic pain, he has long hair too (like me and like you) and it is hard for him to wash his hair also and it is painful. It's true, definitely not a vacation, disabled people who don't go to school and don't/can't work, that's for reasons, not because it'd be a giant holiday. I can't work either nor go to school. I couldn't film myself re-organising my bookshelves either, yes it would take a while, with lots of breaks! The book haul situation sounds difficult.

I feel the same as you on Everything, Everything. I too liked it a lot when I first read it, and if I were to re-read it I feel I would really not like it and be upset at the disability representation. Aww for people not taking you serious when you were younger. It's so true, disability representation is behind on LGBT and people of colour representation, for example. There is so much ableism in books, also in movies and TV. There are so many disabled people in the world and more good representation is sorely needed. I follow a few BookTubers who do a voice-over and not have their bodies on the screen. I haven't seen anyone else using a facemask though.

I film while sitting down as well. Aww for being depressed. I got depressed while in high school, I think I was 15. Aww for no one telling you that your pain was not 'normal'. Staircases are hard, people look at me weird seeing that I struggle with them. I'm sorry you were bullied. I was bullied too. Oh I feel you on not having friends in university. Ugh I'm sorry those people were making snide comments at you. Ugh for your teachers thinking that you were faking not being able to write with your hand!

Aww for people not subscribing to you! I would highly recommend your channel to anyone. And yes I am different to most other people, and I feel it has impacted whether people subscribe to me too (I've had my channel for about 3 years and most channels that are 3 years old or even 2 years old and they all have more subscribers than I do, and more / more interesting videos). Oh yes race is important too, and being 'conventionally attractive' (which I am not, with my scars and wounds)!

Oh yes it makes sense you can read fanfiction while you're in pain, because it is based on something you already know. Yes I know the spoon theory, I have always seen it as my 'energy'. My partner/boyfriend, like me, has little spoons as well. Yes I liked this video a lot! I'm sorry you were in pain while filming it though. Not every video has to be about books, imo. Yes I enjoyed this video a lot! I am here not (just) for book recommendations, I am here for you (and I feel like that about a lot of the BookTube channels I watch, I am there for the person).
  • i totally relate to having to physically prepare your body to film videos. I have a chronic illness and this happens to me to. Great video :) ❤️
