Arlington National Cemetery - Changing of the Guard -Famous Graves

Published 2024-04-01
We had visited Arlington cemetery several years ago, but wanted to go back. At the time of our first visit, we weren't prepared and didn't get much int he way of pics or video. This time we researched it better and knew the graves we wanted to visit, but even with thought out plans, it became quite and overwhelming task. This cemetery is just massive. There are so many laid to rest here. Even with a map, it takes so much time to get from one section to the next. We did find a few of the people we were hoping to pay our respects to, but our list was too long for the few hours we had set aside. Watch and see who we do get to visit and hear the others that we had hoped to reach before our day came to an end. If you've never been to Arlington cemetery, I definitely recommend it. #arlington #cemetery #travelvlog #traveling #campinglife #virginia #placestovisit #mustsee

The changing of the guard is moving to watch. The fact that these guys stand watch even during blizzards and thunderstorms speaks to a level of discipline and commitment that's hard to wrap my head around. Thank you for sharing your experience!
  • We have not been to Arlington before. Such an important place in our country. We would love to go there. Soo much respect for the men and women buried there true heros. Have a wonderful day my friends!!!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

Absolutely love Arlington. As a veteran myself I find it overwhelming and humbling about all of those who came before me! I appreciate you guys going and showing the world this place!
  • Great Video! We went here back in the mid 90's. Very somber place that was created back in 1864. I read the original Cemetery was 200 Acres but is now over 600 acres. The Changing of the Guard is a must see. It's a special Honor to be selected as a Guard. You filmed it perfectly! Audie Murphy was in many Westerns and is a true hero!

Awesome trip to the cemetery. We have yet to go there. It is on our list. Awesome to see the guard ceremony. That is some fancy high stepping stomps. Pretty cool. Glad you found some of the grave sites that you were looking for. Interesting the have the shuttle headstone there. I remember that back in high school. We just watched last night a movie called "Million Miles Away" about the first migrant farmer to go to space on the Discovery shuttle. Great movie. Have a great day.

Shame there has to be such a long line for security, but I guess it's the sign of our times. I saw Omar Bradley once when I was in the Army. I was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas where he lived out his final years. You never saw so many people standing up so tall, saluting as he passed! 🀣🀣He was in a wheel chair being pushed by a Lt. Colonel. Loved seeing the "Changing of the Guard" ceremony. So many hero's there. I was an adult when the first space shuttle crashed. What? Not a fan of the "Duke?"πŸ€”πŸ€” You're not Un-American if you're there. But still, John Wayne? Enjoyed the tour. Thanks for bringing us along.

I learned a few years ago, that there is only a 5-star general during a war. It's a rank that is given to one general that is then given control of all branches of the military during the war. Once the war is over the rank goes away again. It's cool that you got to return to Arlington and see the changing of the guard.

Interesting ceremony. Not sure we have anything like this in our cemeteries. Looks like a nice day to visit and enjoy the tranquility πŸ™‚πŸ’™ Trev
