Has your rent gone up recently?

Don't blame it on the sunshine.
Don't blame it on the moonlight.
Don't blame it on the good times, blame it on the algorithms.

The housing market is hotter than a ghost pepper right now, but did you know that algorithms are playing a big role in turning up the heat for buyers and renters alike?

Let’s grab a glass of ice water and look at how little bits of code are stopping you from getting on the housing ladder, increasing your rent, hiding the best mortgage rates and more.

This is the best for the algorithm... no need to read it (I've been told it's important / helpful)

"Way too much empathy" is exactly the mentality I'd expect of rich, corporate owners. Caring about humanity doesn't buy you another yacht, after all.

Just like a lot of companies say, "We have an App for that". On a more serious side "garbage in garbage out" is a very real thing. Software engineers are reasonably well paid and the companies they work for are very well paid, which will create bias as to affordability as example many computer reviewers will review the high end of the market that will be in their price range. Also, game makers (excluding consoles) rather than making games for the median range of computers will tend towards the enthusiasts with higher-end machines. Thus, creating more bias. Creating predictive software will always have built in bias. An example of this in 2008 when a circuit breaker was activated to slow the crash in the markets. Due to let’s say the "overzealous" buy and sell indicators. As you said the software said to raise rents, that it was programmed to do and was biased to do.

This beat is, this beat is, this beat is algorithmic. Pump up the poor, pump it up, while the rent is pumping.

The reason that politicians make loopholes in rental legislation is that a lot of them own rental properties. . "By my age, my parents had a house and a family, and to be fair to me, so do I - but it is the same house and it is the same family" - Hannah Fairweather I can't even be bothered to be apathetic these days" - Will Duggan
  • If you think you know then don't keep it to yourself, Yell out! So that all the cinema can hear you. So here we are with "Find the 🐟".

Social compatibility is such a creepy way to say "my blatant biases." Why are we so obsessed with computers making decisions for us when in the end we're just going to select for the data we want to see? Everyone knows discrimination is wrong and bad, but they want to obfuscate what they are doing by claiming a computer made their decision for them? Fishy.

There is way too much empathy going on in this video...
