Edmunds' Alistair Weaver and Carlos Lago test and compare the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3. For similar money, these two super sports cars deliver massive driving thrills and motorsports technology for the street. The ZR1 is the highest-performing Corvette available, with 755 horsepower and a wild optional track package that gives it huge sticky tires and an enormous wing. The GT3 may not have the power bragging rights, but it represents a purity of focus. It's built alongside real race cars, and its 4.0-liter engine revs to a beautiful 9,000 rpm. Which one is the most fun on the road and at the racetrack? Watch to find out!

Q: What kind of engine and transmission do the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 have?
A: The Corvette has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 (755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque) and an optional eight-speed automatic. The 911 GT3 uses a 4.0-liter flat-six (500 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque) and an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Q: How much do the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 cost?
A: The Corvette ZR1 starts at $122,095, while the 911 GT3 begins at $145,650 (both figures include destination and gas-guzzler tax). Both vehicles in this video had a few options. Highlights for the Chevy included bucket-style seats ($1,995) and a performance package ($2,995) that included track-optimized tires, suspension and aerodynamic parts. The ZR1's as-tested price totaled $131,300. Significant options for the Porsche included carbon-ceramic brakes ($9,210) and bucket-style seats ($5,200) for an as-tested price of $160,900.

Q: How fast are the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3?
A: Despite the massive difference in power, these two cars accelerate similarly. During testing, the ZR1 reached 60 mph in 3.6 seconds (3.3 seconds with a 1-foot rollout, as on a drag strip) and clocked a quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds at 127.2 mph. The GT3 passed 60 mph in 3.3 seconds (3.1 seconds with a 1-foot rollout) and reached the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 124.7 mph.

2:48 What're you talking about??? The GT3 DOES have a big wing package, it's called the GT3RS and it costs $44k more! 🤑

Dear Carlos! Glad that you're back reviewing cars like you do best. Here's my suggestion though: DONT OVER-SCRIPT THE REVIEWS LIKE MOTORTREND! They have literally ruined the reviews so much lately, they're becoming stage plays. Just speak whats in your head because it a lot more connected to the experience. Let the exchange between you and the co-reviewer be as natural as can be even if you interrupt each other! All the best! =)

Crazy .. the ZR1 hits performance numbers that were only available to million+ dollar supercars just a few years ago... I'd have either if I could and would be absolutely chuffed.
  • @ShariaLawAllDay
The ZR1 is an untamed monster. The GT3 is an eloquent machine. I'm taking the untamed monster.

Carlos left the sinking ship Motortrend.

The Corvette has: 1. Fastest lap time, 2. Best top speed, 3. Best brakes, 4. Best skidpad number, 5. Best styling 6. Best coefficient of drag 7. Best cargo capacity, 8. Lower ownership/insurance/fuel costs, 9. Remote start, 10. Better expected reliability. But it's an American car company (and we're not into that) so the winner in this round is the GT3. Thanks for watching.
  • @quackman
The engine sound capture in this video is some of the best I've heard, great vid overall with these amazing cars and great drivers!

Getting paid to review cars is probably the most fun job ever, and these guys show that, by being themselves,(big car nerds) and not trying too hard that they come off being fake and not fun to watch i.e MOTOR TEND. Good video guys.
  • @justinw2752
I'll give a like for not selling out and having to pay to watch like others... BTW, I'll take the ZR1.
  • @jimmillis2096
The ZR1 is a better car than the average driver. This will give the driver a challenge to become a better driver over time. This will be the last front engine ZR1 and will be a collectors car in the future.

I grew up as a Corvette fan and still am, but I really can appreciate the Porcshe now that am older. However, everyone of these comparison videos are the same... they objectively look like they are having more fun in the corvette and quite bored in the 911
  • @CG_Element
When it comes to American manufacturers, I’m more of a Ford fan than Chevrolet. But you’ve got to admit, the ZR1 is just insane. It’s has numbers that are easily comparable to exotic supercars, and it’s faster than most of them around a track. I think personally it’s about time for us to start calling the corvette a supercar
  • @redtesta
you detune a zr1 feels like other vettes. LOL .. detune the gt3 it feels like every other 911. The overseas guys are just so bias.
  • @steelersfan419
Only thing is the 911 GT3 isn't 30K more, it's more like 50-60K more with the dealer markup -_-
  • @onoff314
Most heavy track users actually purchase the steel rotors for the GT3 as the Carbons don't last that much longer and cost an absolute shit tonne to replace
  • @MrNemo721
YASSSSS! CARLOS LAGO In da House! As much as I love a good 'Murrican Supercharged V8 I'd rather have Grand Sport, even for track use. The Gt3 is pure unobtainium, at least I can dream about a Grand Sport some day.
  • YES! I like this collaboration, please please please make more videos of Alistair and Carlos together!
  • That European guy hated the corvette before he even looked at it. Funny how they say the corvette is harder to drive, yet he drove it 1 handed, whereas he needed 2 hands for the Porsche. Of course the corvette is harder and scarier, it's got 255 MORE horsepower and 2x the torque.
  • @Le_Spam_Man2100
Gotta give the ZR1 some credit. Not only can it preform with some of the higher end European cars, but it's a supercar with 15 cubic feet of trunk space! If you wanted to, you could go to the store and load your groceries into it without having to cram, stuff, or stack anything. I find that pretty impressive.
  • @visualwarp9707
You guys nailed the audio. Voices and engines were both crisp and clear. Please share your secrets with the other channels so we can get more like this ;)
