Dominic is fantastic. He is got powerful game. He is fit and fast. He also showed his fighting spirit in the later stages of the fifth set in this match.
  • This was such a long-awaited and well-deserved win for Domi. He was a player that first caught my attention around 2 years ago due to not just his signature one-handed backhands, but also his down-to-earth and likeable personality off-court, along with having one of the ATP Tour’s most precious smiles. His recent winning record against the Big 3 (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic) is absolutely nothing to sneeze at, even beating Nadal on clay surfaces several times. Since appointing that master coach Massu, Domi has really evolved his game (especially on hardcourts) and it’s led to some big achievements like winning Indian Wells and making the final at the Nitto ATP Finals. He really started to become a favourite for me when he made it all the way to the Australian Open final, in which he took down Nadal in the QFs in the process and got so close to beating Djokovic for the title. Winning a Grand Slam title was a lifelong dream for Domi, and dedicated a lot to working hard to reach said dream. This US Open displayed that underneath that happy, friendly face of his, is a fighter who keeps going to the very end, never giving up. What Domi showed us is that when you never give up, you can achieve greatness. He’s such an inspirational guy with the dedication to the game who is only going to get stronger and that I think could see much greater success to come, even when the Big 3 are gone. Team Thiem is absolutely proud of him!

I miss this guy man. Its still crazy to me this guy went from winning a grand slam win to not winning a match in like over a year I think and in present day hes at the bottom playing challengers barely getting by.... Its a shame what injuries can do. He kind of reminds me of the derrick rose of tennis if drose and the bulls won in 2011. Either way..its a small and rare chance of happening but I hope Domi can get back to a high level again..or at least get back onto the atp tour

Great attitude player, doesn't act like the whole world owe him.

Straight-setting Daniil in the semis was probably an even bigger accomplishment than actually winning it lol
  • @RaduAndreiTennis

Great champion! :) A very powerful player with both an excellent forehand and excellent one-handed backhand, a great technique, great tactical game, great mentality and a great fighter spirit.

This grandslam title is legitimate. If you're saying otherwise you don't know anything about tennis. This was even harder because there were no fans to help them through the hard moments. Thiem almost beat Djokovic in a grandslam final earlier this year at the Australian Open. If you can't accept that he probably would've beat Novak in a final here if it weren't for his disqualification than you are a hater. Thiem will win Roland Garros at some point and you will all shut up about this title and will count it then.
