Published 2023-04-16
Meet Rubén Goméz. He is a minister, scholar, translator, and author from Spain who offers us a really interesting take on the Hebrew Roots Movement (aka Torahism, Torah-observant) from a European perspective. Mr. Goméz is a professional translator who translates theological and academic material from one language into another which gives him some unique insight into the history, hermeneutics, and teachings of HRM.

Excellent interview. Everything said is right on. I'm a gentile that was in the messianic movement for 25 yrs. God pulled me out after I starting knowing the Bible more and questioning what was being taught. I had friends in the HR movement and everything said here is what I experienced. You can't reason with them. You show them scripture and it's like they have a vail over them, they don't see the true meaning of it, they twist scripture. It's true what Mr. Gomez states. They believe they were gentiles and now they are Israelites because they say after you're grafted into the olive tree. You become an Israelite, so you must follow the Torah now, there is no distinction between Jew and Gentile as they teach they are the one new man. They say Christians don't understand the bible because they do not have a Jewish mindset. And there hatred for Christians is unbelievable. Since I've come out of it, I'm seeing they're many more having the same experience as me and coming out of it too. Much prayer is needed for many others to see the truth. Thank you both for exposing this dangerous religion as more come out of it. Mr. Solberg, I'm currently reading your book, it too is spot on to my experience. Now I will add Mr. Gomez book to my studies. Thank you both for exposing the lies of these movements. God bless you both
  • This is spot on. I'm glad to have another resource about the Hebrew Roots deception. Thank you so much for this excellent interview.
  • @manna7471
Thanks from Germany 🕊 ❣. The same is going on here, so sad. God bless you and your ministry.

Mr Gomez was spot on with what goes on in this movement. The education/discussion on the two houses of Israel was great! I am so encouraged and comforted knowing this is being talked about. Thank you! ~ Kathryn Dockins
  • I was almost sucked into this having stayed so far in my life from Christ when I was ready to come back I was just so eager to please my Father in Heaven that I thobk the rules made it feel like I knew the things to do to make him happy
  • @Meggerz207
Great interview of which explains so much. Will look into this book for certain. Thank you for taking the time to get into the details. I didn’t know, but was caught up in this for a few years. Studying the Word is key; not just reading the Bible.

It's hard to categorize Hebrew Roots because they don't have a governing body or denominational structure, but a lot of them have definitely crossed over into cult territory. Groups like LDS , JWs ect all have a problem with Paul and a lot of the Hebrew Roots people do the same thing.
  • Hebrew Roots Hermeneutics: 1. Start with a conclusion 2. Look for supporting evidence 3. Ignore contrary evidence

I came out of Hebrew Roots. I started coming out around 2016-17 or so. I go back to being in the Worldwide Church of God starting in 1983 or so. In the book Torahism by R.L. Solberg, he mentions the Worldwide Church of God being Hebrew Roots. I thought it was because it was just like Hebrew Roots in so many ways. It takes years for it to come out of me though. I came out of Hebrew Roots too, everything all of it, I'm Christion now. I still have so much to learn, but I'm getting it, I'm with you all, God bless you! Ps. I ordered Ruben Gomez's book too. This is such an interesting subject to me that I want to know all of this!

This was great! Thanks for doing the interview with Mr. Gomez.
  • @samthemacman
Great interview, really appreciate it. I recently left the movement.
  • It is so interesting that Verse in Acts Ch 15 I was discussing tonight and I told him almost identically the same thing he said.👍😃
  • What Paul has to say is the very reason HRM diminish him and use Peter’s comment about “difficulty” to understand Paul as why Paul cannot be taken literally. He is diminished just like Jesus is. Little by little.

Everything that Mr gomez says in this interview corresponds perfectly with my own research in to the origins of Hebrew roots, world wide church of God, Armstrong, millerites etc... But he brings more depth. Excellent interview! Buying the book😊 god bless you both!
  • This is a great discussion. Thank you for sharing. I remember many of the things discussed about Hebrew Roots and I can attest to the bad fruits. I myself had some bad fruit during the time I was engrossed in it. I have had to apologize to family members for arguments I had and am still experiencing the untangling of it all. I guess I learned from experience unfortunately. It’s been humbling.
  • Much of HRM doctrine also comes from a popular biblical method of intepretation called PARDES that originates in the Zohar the main text for kabbalah aka Jewish mysticism. The 4th level of PARDES is called the sod level which is the esoteric level. The popular two house teaching is based alot on their intepreting scriptures from the sod level of PARDES. It is the most popular method of biblical intepretation in HRM. Many mainstream HRM teachers use it but their students dont know its origin is kabbalah. I was in the movement for 18 yrs.
  • I so enjoyed this video and his insights into Hebrew roots. I really want to read his book. I am just curious if anyone else is noticing that these Torah observant groups seem to tend towards studying apocryphal books like Enoch, Jubilees, Jasher etc to help support their beliefs about keeping Torah. Would love if you would consider addressing this in any future videos! God bless you both for the work you are doing!
  • I got saved dramatically & the Holy Spirit, not man was the One who turned me onto knowing we are called to obedience. I read the Bible front to back when Jesus came to me. He healed me from a 20 year back injury. Total change. Praise Him.🙌 Pain killer & alcohol abuse gone. It was the Holy Spirit who asked me to look up Easter in the dictionary. Easter was worshipped using eggs & hares as a fertility goddess at a calendar time God didn't create. That is a true saying. Now I keep Passover as memorial cause my Saviour is the Lamb of God. Never looked back but share & be kind about it now to others. I was initially quite disappointed & hurt to be considered a weirdo by denominations but so be it.. Christ as the firstborn of the dead is also the Waive Sheaf of Barley. The Barley is the promise of the Wheat Harvest to come. Praise Him The day of resurrection, just like His death & his day of return & birth are there in the Feasts. The True meaning of everything is determined by God. If we are wise we will not be tempted to think He changes like Satan used in the Garden. . God isn't contradictory . God says do not worship me in the way the heathens worship their gods. We are told not to overlay meaning. Sure we can ascribe good to what God calls bad but it won't end well. And unless we agree with God in my understanding that makes us rebels. Those who find objection to God's instruction don't fully realise Jesus died to bring us out of being slaves to sin & enemies of God. 1 John3:4 says what sin is in case you are new & didn't understand from all the preceding OT words that you may not have read. If we don't realise the deceptiveness of sin that Paul talks about we repeat the garden.. We end up with foundations that are so movable that gay pastors & gender dysphoria are embraced because of *further revelation that leaves all interpretation separated from God's meaning. If God changes he isn't reliable if His Word changes we have a Saviour that can change & be progressive to a point indistinguishable from the World & that could remove even traditional Christianity & change salvations parameters. Christianity seems to have changed the parameters because that "Jesus" is based on us determining that God changes to suit us & call it revelation. My understanding is Salvation is the ongoing of restoration of relationship. We are travelling back to the garden with Christ back to the simplicity of obedience which ends up being the love of God & man & walking with God in the cool if the day not ashamed because we are clothed with the righteousness that shines & no longer naked & ashamed.. The man of lawlessness makes up his own ways so there are 2 different paths with 2 different versions of Jesus is what is being spoken of here in my understanding. I see the Covenants as the means for the RETURN of all mankind to God. The UNITY of distinct people needs a common Constitution of Faith so we can worship together without confusion our Creator God. He calls us to have an identity of Holiness within that is plenty of freedom of expression of individuality you may never have explored that with the Spirit . Holiness & true religion is to look after the poor the widow orphan & sojourners in your gate without defiling yourself. We become like RUTH & are totally absorbed into Israel as the Hebrew suggests or we are sojourners who are not Israel but are through faith responsible to keep the Covenant commands to our King who protects us & thereby live under ONE LAW for all & unity exists or you get what happens on earth now confusion & depravity for the multitudes of vain philosophies . Galatians 3 is future tense & the body of Christ is the judge. What pagan would be interested to judge Jewish Feasts ( that are actually God's) & Isaiah 66. Did it for me too. Knowing that the Sabbath's are future. Showed me how whoever exists in the New Heavens & Earth will be worshipping. If you don't understand Proselytism you don't understand why it was rejected by Paul. How are we all going to worship together when all the people raised from ancient times that had faith that is different to Christianity? . We all need to come to the words of Life without preconceived ideas like I was enabled 🙌 & be taught of the Spirit of Truth. God is good. That God is the Creator whose name is Salvation. In that day His Name shall be One. Amen. Be blessed.🙏
  • You guys also made me think of 2Cor 10— The weapons of our warfare are for the destruction of Fortresses= Ochuroma= reasonings by which a disputant endeavors to fortify his opinion! And we are destroying speculations=Logismos= “Reasoning such as is hostile to the faith“. And we are taking every thought captive—Thought= “Noema”= “A mental perception“, also “an evil purpose“! That’s the way I see this entire passage brothers! Exposing false doctrines, exposing false gospels, and the teaching that we are complete in Christ! It’s not a partial, it is complete! We don’t turn back from a new covenant, and then run back to a former tutor that led us to Messiah! Substance wins over shadows!!!
