Rio Tinto Chimney Demolition

Published 2024-03-20
An iconic landmark of Holyhead, Anglesey. The chimney was 450ft high and built in the early 1970's to expel waste gases which resulted from the Aluminium Smelting Process.
Anglesey Aluminium closed in February 2013 - a major economic loss for the people of Holyhead and the surrounding area.

I’m not joking I’m in tears right now. As I was born in Holyhead I have five siblings and ever since we were children we’d always wave to him and say hi tinto! (We called him tinto). And right before we left for a holiday we had one last goodbye to our old friend before we left. So don’t laugh it’s sad 😭
