Building our Wooden Dinghy, the Eastport Nesting Pram from Chesapeake Light Craft - Ep 28

Published 2020-07-17
Our dinghy is an Eastport Nesting Pram, and it was designed by Chesapeake Light Craft (CLC) in the USA. We purchased the dinghy as a kitset in the UK - the European distributor for CLC is a company called Fyne Boat Kits. They're based in Cumbria. If you prefer to do the whole process yourself, you can buy the plans on their own.

"Piwakawaka" is the Maori name for the native New Zealand Fantail, a bird which often follows people in the forest (like a tender follows a yacht). These birds are small, cute, agile and very useful (they eat insects like mosquitos and flies!) As an added bonus, the word "Waka" on its own means "canoe" or "boat", so we though the name was quite fitting.

    Nice project, thx, Adam, Tofino.CA
  • All hail from Kiwi land , we once had a tender with sealed buoyancy cavity seats , which leaked, so we drilled a couple of wide holes and poured in a carefully calculated amount of expanding foam ! and blew the seat top . What you might call a disaster.  Love you show :-)

Excellent video - I'm surprised it took me this long to find your channel. Great use of an AMEX card!

I would love one of these Eastport Prams. Wish I had the skill to build the kit but I know myself, I'd probably over sand and over cut somewhere.
  • Good job with planing the mast. I would of subbed that out to someone with a lathe.

Great video as usual. Are you doing a video of your Panama Canal crossing? Where is your next planned stop in the Pacific? Stay safe!

Great job. Thinking of building one. Realistically are you able to sail her with two aboard? Thanks.
  • It's so lovely, I would appreciate you if you could please tell me where I can order the whole thing online, I am actually based in Dubai, and I am not able to find it here.
