Fresno City Council President Tyler Maxwell publicly pledged to not take police union money only to break his promise the moment he thought the political winds had shifted. He posed as a progressive reformer during his campaign in order to win the grassroots community support needed to deliver him an upset victory over his heavily-funded opponent, but then quickly got to work entrenching the lucrative Fresno status quo as soon as he was sworn in.

Maxwell represents District 4 in East Central which includes the areas around Fresno State and the airport. He’ll be up for reelection next year.
