My New Favorite Fly Fishing Only Spot

A quick 3 hour ride North. We drive in the wee hours of the morning and had our eyes peeled for Bullwinkle. We arrive with mist coming from the river and small hatches just starting to happen. This area is new to both of us but the hopes of fat Brook Trout stirred the lack of sleep the night before and the jitters of excitement while putting on waders. We both start with our specialty (fishing partner, Nymphing and me streamers). I get lots of solid chases right off with no hook ups. We move down stream on a nice trail system and I soon hook with barbless hooks two beautiful Brook Trout that have the skill for flipping off with ease. After seeing multiple hatches and only seeing a few trout surface I switch to a Parachute Adams and bend the barb over and joking cast it next to my fishing buddies feet! We both saw the epic take, it was the classic text book style dry fly take. The fish seemed a little leader shy and I was probably using too heavy of a line but it is now my favorite new Brook Trout spot!

  • Barbless hooks don't suck. They do force you to be a more proficient angler though! And are much easier on the fish.

This is my favorite place to fish and I haven’t been there for a few years because of life. I needed to see it and I’m glad I saw your video. It is such a hard river to fish, in places. They run so much water out of that dam sometimes it is unfishable. Then you had how steep it is and the rocks. It’s good hard fishing. I’ve had salmon and brookies pull me down that stretch of river right above that big pool. The pockets are so small and they get in that current and you’re done. Amazing and angry fish there. It fishes well below that big rock you ended on, too. Thanks for the video and thanks for not sharing the location. It is truly a paradise and does not need any more pressure. Now I just want to be there.

Nice video! I go camping up there almost every other weekend from may thru september. That river is legendary and caught so many nice brookies
  • Hooked landed and lost some nice brookies and Salmon there. Fortunately it is now protected . Local preservation at its best!
  • Nice brookies. Im a brookie fiend and am heading to Maine from Montana in a month.
  • I'm glad someone else thinks barbless hooks suck! We used to be able to pinch the barbs up here to follow the barbless laws but now can't even do that. They just don't hook up to fish.
