  • My Mom had a cafe in a small town during the fifties and sixties. My Mom was from south Texas and was an awesome cook. Always having home made rolls and pies. People would bring in fruit for her to make pies and fruit rolls. She had a friend who would bring her sour cream and she would bake sour cream raisin pies . She would have to make at least 4 chocolate meringue pies, 2 lemon pies..one meringue and one with a lattice top….i mean..fresh strawberries and raspberries became delicious fruit rolled in sponge cake …blueberries, gooseberries, rhubarb, apple ..can you imagine…fresh pies with local produce. I’m 79 and so thankful I learn pie making from my Mom.

Chess pie still reigns supreme in my household of Chattanooga, Tennessee!!! ❤
  • My Grandmother in southern Ontario was of German origin via Pennsylvania. She was a prize winning pie maker and passed on her skill to her daughter in law ,my mom.I am 73 and remember the hours I spent in the kitchen with them as a child and fighting over the last piece of pie with my older brother.Sadly few people who work physically hard enough to healthily eat those kind of desserts anymore But in the day we had them all Graham cracker custard with a meringue top.Rhubarb and rhubarb custard, coconut cream, chocolate, mincemeat, an apple pie with out a top crust. Peach was my favorite. But in reality I loved them all..
  • I am from Indiana and the Wicks pie company is just a little north of where I live. Sugar cream pie is common around here. They are sold frozen. If you want to eat them the day you buy them you can warm them in the oven at a low temp. Or you can let it thaw overnight in the Fridge. Either way it is amazing!

Mincemeat is probably my favorite type of pie. We also ate it during Thanksgiving right after hunting season.

YES! These pies DO tempt me to revive them and taste them all. Thanks for the recipes - sketchy but adequate. I like this high-speed no-nonsense presentation format!

Vast majority of these aren't forgotten n still are being made

Shoofly Pie like said is still available around Pennsylvania. It was originally the centennial cake in 1876, but converted to a pie because the cake was very sticky and a pie crust made it easier to handle. The name Shoofly was popular at the time for Shoofly the Boxing Mule. Many items were named after him, including molasses, and eventually the pie.
  • I’m in Quebec, Canada, & raisin pie was a staple Christmas pie on the table but fell out of fashion long ago. I missed it and we made one last year, every bite was a delicious, sweet, childhood memory. 😊🥧❤️
  • I can walk into a restaurant near me and get a slice of sugar cream pie six days a week . Living in Indiana does have some perks .
  • Grew up in Indiana, and sugar cream pie is my all time favorite. My mom used to make it with freshly ground nutmeg. So delicious.
  • Chess pie is alive and well in the Carolinas! And all-fruit, vegetarian mince pie is alive and well in New England.
  • Shoefly pie is still sold in almost every grocery store in Pennsylvania.
  • My family makes chess pie every year for christmas. I have a recipe that has been in my family for at least 5 generations. Our recipe includes raisins and walnuts it is one of my favorite pies ever.

Gooseberry pie is a favorite at our house and I know it’s the favorite of others too.

Some of my fondest memories are of going huckleberry in the Pacificnorthwest. Picking them in the high mountains of Eastern Oregon dropping them in a coffee can tied to your belt So you could use both of your hands to pick them, and then going home and making pie with basically the ingredients you stated in the video huckleberrys Sugar, a buttery crust baked in golden. It's one of my favorites, especially with the giant scoop of vanilla ice cream

The mock apple pie recipe was on the Ritz crackers box well into the 1970’s. This video has many inaccuracies and was poorly researched. Opossum pie is enjoyed currently.
  • Gooseberry pie is awesome. 🙂My grandmother had a bush and made it when the berries were ripe.
