White House: Biden's 2024 exit not about his health

In her first news briefing since President Joe Biden announced he was ending his reelection campaign, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the president's decision has "nothing to do with his health."

Jean-Pierre was responding Wednesday to a question about why Biden felt it was in the country's best interest for him to step aside and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.

"In his letter [on Sunday], he talked about the country, he talked about the party, he talked about the moment that we're in right now," she said. "It is not about his health."

Jean-Pierre also directed reporters to watch the president's Oval Office address on Wednesday evening, where he will address his exit from the 2024 race for the first time.
