I feel like there should be more focus on the fact that this dude is miserable, and less focus on his unemployment.

This world is not easy for creative people. It's also not easy for people dealing with depression and trauma. I can relate to this guy.
  • He’s much more normal and relatable than I originally thought
  • @killy374
I don't blame him. I have intense depression and I did nothing in the last 4 years because of it and I am 24.

There's a little boy deep inside of him that got trapped & never got to grow up, but he still did!
  • 25 with a degree in electronics and i still can't get a job and it makes me angry because i tried so hard just to be treated as a disposable

Dr phil is the kind of guy that would argue with a blind person. "Im right infront of you, just look at me!"

Ten years ago I had a dream IT job, worked for 6 years straight, burned out epically, alcohol, to "cure" the stress, things got worse, extreme anxiety and apathy came into my life despite I had it all, money, respect. Health declined rapidly. I left my dream job, here I am, unemployed for 10 years, in constant search for the ultimate internal body and soul cure, I tried many things, drawing, woodworking, sport helped me a lot, I got into swimming and calisthenics, trying to eat healthy, and I maybe had 2 beers in the last 5 years. But there is this black hole of emptiness and unfulfilled ambitions, there are days I feel worthless and miserable, but I keep moving, maybe one day I will find my purpose and place. God bless you all, be strong, enjoy life, it's very short and is temporary.

Out of touch people who don’t understand unemployment.
  • Probably the first time Dr Phil has ever had a guest on who wasn't deluded about their creative abilities, but was actually talented and just genuinely struggling to overcome their anxiety and depression. He seems like a nice guy and I really hope he's able to pull through because, from what I can see, he doesn't have a bad attitude and he isn't defensive, he's just a bit lost. Speaking as someone who has struggled with similar depression and anxiety and has had those days and weeks where getting out of bed and finding work was a struggle because you couldn't face the failure you feel that you are (it's not always as simple as "he's being lazy" which a lot of people seem to believe, sometimes this can be a sign of something else and should be taken seriously), I completely understand what he's saying.

I feel I'm becoming this guy more with each passing year not giving me the ideal opportunity in life despite my endless perseverance.
  • My daughter could burn down the house and I’d still love her. The type of parent that could get to the point they say “I don’t love you” is probably the parenting that created an immature, manic depressed 35 yo

This guy might have Bipolar or ADHD. I don't feel he deserves the hate. And Dr. Phil can't help him.
  • There is a cut off point of which you have been unemployed for so long that you can NEVER get a job, because as soon as an employer sees that CV with huge gaps in it they thinks its a red flag. Then you lose your sense of purpose altogether. You are basically discarded by society entirely.

It sucks to not want to get up in the morning, but every day we have to try to create a life we can feel excited to wake up for.
  • @Anouk95NL
I have been unemployed for 5 months, I've never been happier. My mental health was at an all time low and I just coulnd't do it anymore. I'm going to start my new job tomorrow because society and the government made me feel pressured into getting a job. We will see how it goes.. I will put my mental health above everything, and if it doesn't work out, I'm out asap.

I swear I am this guy to a point. I'm 35, gonna be 36 soon. I'm also creative love of film, but hard to do that, when I need to focus on a day job. But then every job I get I know I'm just wasting my time and life. If the me as a kid knew how I turned out, he would be disappointed.
