Also, at the time of his arrest (which took years) there was a lot of racial tensions, since most of his victims were young African American man and teenagers. Which led people to think that's why he was often released by the police even when he was called by his neighbours who saw and heard weird things, such as people screaming (since most of them was severely hurt while still being alive). He was a blond cute white man living most of his adult life in an African American neighborhood.

I like the interview Evan peters recently did with Netflix and how he talks all about it and says that they were very careful to make sure that Dahmer is not the main focus but the victim story is the most important, they're not out to glamorize what he did and they don't want anyone to feel sympathy for Dahmer either. it's just helping to shed a lot of light from the untold stories of what happened with the murders.
