While my Demon 170 was having a new engine installed, I had the opportunity to drive the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer featuring the Hurricane Twin Turbo Inline 6-cylinder engine. I give you my driving impressions after driving it for a full month. Is this engine overhyped or something to get excited about?

They struggle because they have completely ignored the customers' wishes.
  • One of the biggest problems is that 90 percent of dodge dealers alienated their customer base, to the point that I’m not sure they’ll survive 😢

Problem is BMW has mastered the I6TT. These will have to be extremely tunable, reliable, and cheaper to compete. I’d have a tough time taking this over an M340. That’s apples to apples. Once you lose the V8, you start cross shopping with every other German brand. I got my challenger for the 6.4. The sound, the NA, all of it
  • I think the design has great potential, but the Stellantis "Quality" has me too spooked to risk buying one anytime soon.

Youre missing the big picture. It's NOT muscle. That's the whole problem.

Man being a youtuber has its perks. My redeye was in the shop for almost 4 months and they didnt have a loaner car for me. I had to buy a cheap beater car or get reimbursed for a rental which i would have paid thousands of my own money after like a month of waiting.

If I remember, you were impressed by the hornet as well. So I'm weary

I do appreciate that you are more open than I am... I just can't. Keeping my Hellcat alive as long as I can.

And as it’s been said many times before: There is no replacement for displacement. SRT line was the only thing that had me exited. Oh well.

One of these hurricanes would be an awesome swap into one of my jeep XJs. 👀

Dodge doesn't even have the support that dealers need to fix ppls cars with the 2015 design. And they under pay their mechanics which leaves the customer with sub par work being done

My friend is a general manager of a CDJR dealer he has three hurricanes waiting for motors that have blown. Good luck putting 700 horsepower in these things. You all will be footing the bill for a new 15,000 motor. Pass

I’ve been a mustang guy for 30 years so I understand all the guys here screaming V8 till I die but I’ve also owned a 3 litre twin turbo BMW for five years. An inline 6 is so vibration free when you first drive them it feels like they aren’t running. They make peak torque from 1400rpm straight to redline and the depth of your wallet is the only limiting factor in power potential. They just make power everywhere, down low, midrange, up top, if you’re in the right gear you hit the gas and go! It’s true they don’t make the noise of a V8 but thankfully they also don’t make the noise of a V6. Like it or not seeing the taillights of something powered by a turbo I6 is just going to become more common
  • Wow, my 2009 Viper has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. But to hear that both Wagoneers have issues....damn, what a disappointment in quality control.

I'm from Australia and the top engine swap here that isn't a V8 is Ford's BARRA turbo 4.0 inline 6 cylinder making as much as over 1200-wheel HP. They're cheaper than a 2JZ build over here.

Sound means a lot to a car enthusiast. I can remember when the NASCAR Busch Series ran V-6s and the sound at the track was horrible. It was like listening to someone scratch a chalkboard. I have heard a few good sounding inline 6s, but none of them sound good with open exhaust systems.
