Justin is still married to the same girl that he wrote this song about. They got married in 1970, 3 years after it was released in 1967. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

This was written and composed by the lead singer, who you see here, Justin Hayward when he was just 19 years old. Imagine a 19 year old young man making something like this.

I'm 71 years old and was a teenager when this song came out. It struck me so hard that a song could be so beautiful. I went to sleep singing Nights in White Satin as my eyes gently closed and I went into dreamland. The addition of the orchestra to the marvelous voice of Justin Hayward made this song absolutely most memorable.

The studio version shows you his voice is even better as a youngster
  • Every time I see someone younger react to older music (the music that has been the soundtrack to my life) like this, it restores my faith in humanity.
  • Released in 1967.... There is a poem at the end of the original release..... Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bedsitter people look back and lament Another day's useless energy spent Impassioned lovers wrestle as one; Lonely man cries for love and has none; New mother picks up and suckles her son; Senior citizens wish they were young Cold-hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colours from our sight Red is grey is yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion

You should give the studio version, with the poem "Late Lament" appended to the end. Actually, the whole album "Days of Future Passed" is a must listen, as it's a concept album where all of the songs are meant to be heard in sequence. Often, in live performance, Drummer Graeme Edge would recite the poem either at the beginning or end of this song. There are also a ton of other great Moody Blues songs to hear, "Ride My See-Saw," "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band," "Question," "The Voice," and, my personal favorite, "Legend of a Mind."

The Moody Blues is a band that seems to be often forgotten about, but they have a wide range of hits. Isn't Life Strange, Your Wildest Dreams, The Story in Your Eyes, and I Know You're Out There Somewhere are good songs that will not disappoint.
  • This song was so personal to me. When I was young I used to sing this song to my new wife while we were on road trips. We listened to the entire cassette. I put the Moody Blues at a class of their own. Not rock, pop, easy listening. I really could not classify them. But I loved them and gave them utmost respect.

Justin also sang on Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds. His vocals on Forever Autumn are sublime!

The lead singer Justin Hayward wrote this masterpiece when he was 19 and here in this live performance he's 65 years old. A rare talent. Also, even at his older age he has such crystal clear, emotional and fine vocals. What a perfect song it is and always will be.

The Question is another gem. The Word and Om should be listened to together. Tuesday Afternoon is also nice.

Finally you've gotten to a song that I hold dear to my heart. Thank You. P.S. Ms. Aileen Senpai, If you smiled any bigger. I'm scared your face would lock. EDIT: There is an original 1967 version of this, that's 9 minutes long. Strongly suggest you listen to that at some point. It has things in it that are not in this version. EDIT 2: Yes I'v been listening to this song since 1967. I'm old. Sorry. I realize young people don't like old folk being around. But I have enjoyed Ms. Senpai's reactions to music I have listened to for nearly 60 yrs in some cases.
  • This song was on an Album called “Days of Future Past” and on the album this song ends with a beautiful poem called “Late Lament” “Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room, Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another days useless energy is spent, Impassioned lovers, wrestle as one, A lonely man cry’s for love and has none, New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight, Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right, And which is an illusion.” And was preceded by another poem titled “Morning Glory” “Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight, Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right, And which is an illusion. Pinprick holes in a colorless sky, Let insipid figures of light pass by, The mighty light of ten thousand suns, Challenges infinity and is soon gone, Night time, to some a brief interlude, To others the fear of solitude, Brave Helios wake up your steed, Bring the warmth the countryside needs” Poems were written by the drummer Graem Edge.
