Katie, Emmett, and our friend Johnny Meyer wrote this song about our grandparents' farm in Mountain Grove, Missouri. It's often the simple things in life that mean the most.
We are so grateful to our patrons for allowing us to focus on original music this year! Without Patreon we would be on the road many more weekends trying to make money, but we have been able to sit back and give space to the writing process. What a gift!

►LYRICS - Down That Dirt Road (Original)
Skippin' rocks and jumpin' off
That bridge down by the creek
I still feel the damp of that tall grass
Underneath my bare feet
And across the yard, a big red barn
Ever-etched there in my mind
Tossed me the keys to that old truck
And taught me how to drive
Down that dirt road
There's a little piece of home
That'll always be waitin'
No matter where I go
Some things are bound to change
And some things don't
Down that dirt road
As I grew, my dreams did too
Of a bigger life to see
Out there beyond this little pond
That was now too small for me
So I pulled away my roots
And gave the city life my hand
But at night I lay awake
And dreamed about where I began
Down that dirt road
There's a little piece of home
That'll always be waitin'
No matter where I go
Some things are bound to change
And some things don't
Down that dirt road
I thought the grass would be greener
Over on the other side
But the greenest grass I've ever seen
Beneath the bluest sky
Was down that dirt road
There's a little piece of home
That'll always be waitin'
No matter where I go
So I'm goin' down that dirt road
To my little piece of home
It's always been waitin'
No matter where I go
Some things are bound to change
And some things don't
I've never been more ready to be home
And down that dirt road

Takes you back to a time where America was perhaps not perfect but it was filled with hope and family values and faith.
-
Nice to hear Matt solo with the great harmony accompanying him❤
-
A beautiful song that suits Mat's voice and maybe a bit of nostalgia for us elders.
-
II´m from Germany, and I am slso a musician. I like youre style to make country music - it´s famous! Thanks for this kind of music!
-
Come al solito capitate sempre al momento giusto! Le strade sporche o impraticabili portano sempre a CASA , basta avere il coraggio di camminare! Ciao Petersen family! Saluti dall' Italia!
-
After a difficult week here in the UK, this big ray of sunshine from Missouri is very welcome and gratefully received.
-
Sometimes I don't find the song, the song finds me.
-
I hope to listen to your concert in Italy!!!❤
-
What a wonderful original song. Matt did a great job singing it.
-
When I listen to this song, I remember my childhood I caught fish in the river with my friends and my adolescence I dreamed living in a big city but came back soon after being fed up with so many people and crowded trains. This is a song which reminds me of how good my home or my country place where I brought up. I love this song and melody all of you sing and play your instruments so well.

Fantastic Family, phenomenal music, amazing voices, great musicians. 🎻🎸🎤🎶🎵😊😃.
-
This lyric: "Down that dirt road There's a little piece of home That'll always be waitin' No matter where I go" = Never forget where you came from nor forget your roots. Thank you Petersens for that reminder. :-)
-
Lovely song. Traditional country with the magical Peterson touch. And I do realize this is a new song, but it will be traditional soon enough.
-
Another fantastic song. Real music by REAL performers. Thank you !!
-

And there goes my toes...tapping again to another Petersen's song. You just can't argue with your toes....they just know good music when it plays! Can't fool the toes....no siree ....must be why God put them at the end of our feet....so we'd always know when good music was happening! Thank you, Petersen's! ❤️🙏❤️
-
This is such a great song. We should be honored for the Petersons and all the songs they do.😊
-
I love how they look at each other in such fondness. It's a beautiful thing.
