I was born & raised in Silver Spring. Sadly, I moved away years & years ago due to my new (at the time) husbands military career. I never considered we would not be coming back. šŸ˜¢ I am SO homesick - I will never get over that. SS was the BEST place to grow up - it had everything and then some. For everyone fortunate enough to live there - how I envy you! ā¤

There's always something to do in Silver Spring and it's very accomodating to differing household incomes and budgets. The smaller coffee shops are very good. I like how walkable the downtown area is.
  • every time I go to that place I get lost, when I go over the university area, yes get lost, but that's where the good shopping is, for cultural grocery. Parking is a nightmare down town. Honestly I wouldn't live there, good to visit that's it.thanks for highlighting it.

I used to live there and its quite annoying and I donā€™t recommend it. The only pro of living there is safety. The comment about the place being diverse is a lie. That place is 95 percent Ethiopian. If your from that community, itā€™s an awesome area. If your not, hereā€™s what you will find. The area in general has a frugal mindset. Iā€™ve never in my life been to shopping malls that donā€™t fix escalators, stores that donā€™t run air conditioning in the summer time, large establishments that donā€™t have wifi. Customers in line arguing about items ringing up 50 cents higher than the price they thought they saw on the shelf. I was ready to snap, I had to go from that area šŸ˜… The Uber drivers will pick you up in 90 degree weather with the window down.. unbothered. Not to mention the constant language barrier and 90 percent of the restaurants in the area being tailored to the African community. Again, if your from Africa (not black American) literally from Africa, Silver Spring is the place for you! Youā€™ll love it!!!!! If your a traditional American, you will get frustrated beyond belief trying to live there. Lastly, the apartment I used to live in downtown would crank the heat on 80 degree days and we had no control over it. Youā€™d see Ethiopian tenants still walking through the building with leather jackets and beanies onā€¦ in 80 degree weather, with the heat on. By the way, I have nothing against that. Itā€™s their culture. One guy told me ā€œwe like it hot like Africaā€ But if thatā€™s not what your accustomed to, you will lose your mind trying to fit in in that area.

We're all basically the same city. Northern Virginia, Central Maryland and DC. Forget the borders and Baltimore
  • Hi can you show us the newly built residential housing project near downtown area i am currently searching for a new house for single family..thank you.
  • Cost of living very high, high taxes with no breaks for seniors or retirees. Crime has increased over the decades. Never go into downtown parking garages alone at night.
