Last time, I talked about what I love about Stanford. Here are some of my least favorite things about being a student at Stanford University.

  • here 5 mins before decisions come out, preparing myself for a rejection edit: accepted by some weird force of nature
  • Indeed, no one in the Chemistry Department has a soul. The first year courses do separate the adults from the children, and any survivors can congratulate themselves for advancing towards degree completion. Everyone who succeeded in their Chemistry courses considers themselves as survivors. B.S. Biochemistry '99, M.S. Education '04

Hi Lour! I love watching your YouTube videos and have watched all of your videos that you have posted so far. I found all of your YouTube videos very informative, because my boy is also there with you in the campus and is your batch mate, a class 2024. So, please keep posting as and when you get time.

With you 100% on the neighborhood system, the food, and the chem department. I am very glad that I don't need to take any chem classes (AP credit covers it for me). On the flip side, the CS department is amazing. I actually like the quarter system a lot. It's hard, yes, and duck syndrome is 100% a thing, but I don't dislike it at all. Adding to the list of complaints about Stanford … R&DE is trash. Now the Stanford R&DE goons are gonna come after me, aren't they? It's almost like they're trying to avoid making accommodations. I have Muslim friends who wanted their meal plans changed for Ramadan, and they had to argue on the phone to get the accommodation. I asked to change my meal plan to something that actually has meal plan dollars, cuz my classes span the entire lunch period, and they said something to the effect of "Nope, not doing it cuz your meal plan is tied to your housing contract. Besides, you need to make cOmMuNiTy by eating in the dining hall with your dormmates (fam there is no community cuz we can already eat anywhere we want, plus the food in our dorm isn't even that great). We can give you 19 meals with no meal plan dollars, though! :D" Don't get me wrong; I love Stanford, and with the knowledge I have now, I still would choose Stanford in a heartbeat. But like Lour said, it's not the perfect paradise everyone imagines it to be.

Wait but I saw you first from the accepted brown university video
  • Stanford changed to the neighborhood system because admin wanted to increase diversity and cross cultural communication. Back when the lottery system existed, everyone chose with whom they lived. However, sororities and fraternities sometimes "rigged the system" in favor of their members who received choice housing assignments. Fraternities and sororities would occupy an entire floor in the residence halls before moving into Greek Housing. Criticism about the lottery system came from those assigned to older unrenovated residence halls before technology upgrades. Sadly, first year ethnic students received placement in these older units, despite their close proximity to campus. The neighborhood system, a recent change, appears to provide more equitable housing and an opportunity to build connections. -Stanford B.S. '99 M.S. 04

Someone who walks everywhere wouldn't have any problems with 20 minutes per direction... I have walked home from the cinema for 2 hours, multiple times, when there was no public transportation... Now I don't want this comment to be "when I was your age I fought polar bears to get to school", both because I'm younger than you and simply because it's a stupid thing to say, but still 20 minutes to get to class is nothing...
