Dear Bro Bolo: This is the most sobering and salient title given to any video title. Classic. Calligraphed in clay. Before one begins to study music, he must calculate his destination, direction and how to arrive. There is nothing sadder than wasting life learning, having no stage -- only a fish bowl, being scoffed at by brothers blaring their Beamers, Benz, bling and biatches -- while not even being able to blow out beans from your butt!

THE DISLIKES ARE FROM THE HARD HEADS WHO REFUSE TO LEARN HOW TO DO BETTER..
  • @jamesm.3967
I haven’t even watched the whole video and I know you’re doing a good service. Thank you. It’s the Music BUSINESS. ALWAYS has been.
  • @kyriikeys195
Thank you so much for this. Getting the book ASAP!!! It's always best to enter any situation with your eyes open. Music is no different. It's a business like any other. And when money is involved best believe, greed, envy, backstabbing, sabotage, alot of Machiavellian moves are going to be made.
  • @Ahn-Ree
The real thing is that there are a lot of people looking for instance gratification. They just don’t don’t want to to read. We’re as knowledge is power thanks for sharing this information.
  • @kannon3979
Knowledge is Power!!! You'll be a weapon the more you equip yourself with the ins & outs of the music industry and you'll never get taking advantage of. Confessions of a Record Producer (5th edition) by Moses Avalon is a good book as well.
  • @kamosebeats6494
I bought this book at savers for $3.99 it’s the 5th edition, I was very happy to come up on this 1 here. It’s a blessing..I’m going to get the 10th edition soon.
  • I don't have "smash hits" but I have songs in movies, Smithsonian Institute Videos, broadcast productions, and on Grammy winning Albums. You do need a knowledge of the music business, but if you aren't affiliated with the right sources you won't likely be compensated. And if you don't know who's supposed to pay you, you shouldn't do work for anyone until you find that out upfront.

On the live stream yesterday, I literally was wondering what book I read at one point that helped me understand the space. You hit the exact book I was thinking of on the head, thanks for all the value boss
  • @knormalday708
I'm sad to say that I've had this book for years and never fully read it. Now is the time. Thanks bro.
  • @SimonePhoenix
THAT is the definitive book! Thank you for teaching & may unlimited success forever be yours, honored sir. Bless up. đŸ™đŸœ
  • Bolo your channel and content is great. I watch your vid regularly. I still have a copy of the first edition from over 20 years ago along with books by Kashif and Moses Avalon. You are correct that artists should educate themselves. It is necessary for any profession anyone should enter. Books like these have been around for a while and the sad part is that every time smart artists start learning the industry and trying to do the right thing, the rules are changed and they must educate themselves on something new. CDs and physical media is almost irrelevant now to contacts in 2021. Artists are learning about streaming and 360 deals and they keep moving the goal posts. The goal of a label is to make as much money as possible without paying the artists lol. Keep on educating everyone, you're doing a great thing.

Passman's book is the one I started with 35 years ago. It was the clearest I've ever read. At 58 I feel like I need to go take a class in Music Business again. Between the MLC, Songtrust, and my aggregator, it's so confusing as to all the places I need to register to collect all my compulsories these days and the government did NOT simplify things. Thanks for telling people this! They need to know. I have a degree in Pro Audio & Business. I took all the classes. And it's all our if date now. Good luck everyone!
  • @eyem1ofnothing
Just want to let you know how much your videos help me. When I doubted myself cause I thought I was too old to chase my dream, you did a video about not being too old to chase your dreams. That's just one example of how your videos are always on time for me. I'm working on owning my own record label, independent of course, and in the process of learning the business and now this video. Every time I need an answer your videos answers all my questions right on time. Thank you and keep doing what you do.
  • @jamierice9313
Glad you put this video out. This book is recommended by so many people to start getting some knowledge on the industry. If people don’t think they need to learn the music business side they better watch that movie Cadillac Records.
  • @slayawde2
Darrell Digga Branch's "The Beat Game" is a good read as well!
  • @EliakimMaombo
