How does the login screen accent color on the second monitor work in Windows 8.1?

In Windows 8.1, on the login screen, when using dual monitors, the second monitor is the accent color, unlike in Windows Vista, 7, 8.0, 10, and 11 where the second monitor is black. In Windows XP when the Welcome screen is disabled, the background behind the classic logon prompt is blue on all screens, but when the Welcome screen is enabled, the second monitor is black, and pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice temporally switches to the classic logon prompt, which is on a black background.

In Windows Vista, 7, 8.0, 10, and 11, minimizing the LogonUI reveals a black background behind, which is consistent with the second screen being black, meaning that the background behind the login screen is black.

So in Windows 8.1, because on the login screen the second monitor is the accent color, that must mean that the background behind the login screen is the accent color. So if I minimize the login screen, the background behind must be the accent color, right? Watch this video to find out!

It's sad that Windows 10 and 11 don't have such excellent things as login screen accent color and slide show on second monitor. I hope Windows 12 will return them.

When you change the background of the SYSTEM user using the sethc trick on Windows XP, that background is used on both the welcome screen and classic logon prompt

It's sad how much better Windows 8.1 is at handling multiple monitors than any other version of Windows. Even macOS is better at handling multiple monitors I stg

So, Windows 8.1 is unique for second monitor in logon screen

What if you tried to run Windows sign in program in Both Windows 10 and 11 with the same command lines that Windows 8.1 used for each monitor? Ex: In Windows 8.1 Windows sign 1 /login Windows sign 2 /onlyslideshow Windows sign 3 /onlyslideshow Now you run them in Windows 10 / 11. And also, you can see a more detailed info with process explorer, if old procexp doesn't show up process params.

Windows 8.1's accent lock screen could be used as chroma key... it's what I miss since the day of upgrade to Windows 11.

I'm still trying to figure out if it's possible but to change the accent color that windows 10 shows when the computer shuts down, like to change it to a wallpaper instead.

Idea for your next video: What happens if you end explorer.exe or dwm.exe in Windows bootlegs

Man, it's kinda unfair that Windows 8.1 has multiple LogonUIs on multiple monitors (1 instance for each monitor) while newer versions don't? WHYYY??
  • @Odswietny
How do you have your monitors connected (HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort etc.)?
