Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 Upgrade and mod..

Published 2019-11-12
A brief video showing a pole upgrade to the Cloud peak 2. And a couple of helpful tips.
A small Disclaimer, not because I have to . But because thats how I roll. " I mentioned on occasion the pole diameter was 9.5mm. They are actually 10.25mm At least we know a Naturehike clip wi;; fit a 10.25mm pole...

  • just posting this as a tip for anyone wanting to carry out this upgrade.a handy way to measure length of original poles with pre bent sections is to use cable ties, put new poles parralel to originals and cable tie together with about half dozen ties then pull them tight and gradually tighten cable tie at pre bent section this pulls in the pre-bend until almost straight thus giving you more or less the exact length add 3mm for errors.i cut my poles down from 3x pre made 4metre poles.also dont just trim off one end of pole to fit take equal amounts of each side of new pole to maintain structural integrity/strength of poles
  • done the same pole upgrade on my new cloud peak 2 ultralight recently after watching your vid.same results drum tight all round just shame on flysheet gap to ground.not used tent yet,its roomier than my mountain equipment dragonfly 2 n i love the 2 porches but defo wouldnt call cloud peak 2 a 4season tent due to amount of mesh n gap on flysheet.but the upgrade will defo improve strength and i'll use cloud peak most of the year now but my mountain equipment will still be my alpine n winter tent.i live in the lake district so needed a tent that can take high winds and torrential rain, and had looked at cloud peak 2 for a while as a good cheapish tent for spring/summer multi day use but after watching your wee vid thats what swung it for me knowing it would take thicker upgraded poles cheers mate great video really useful

I had a thought about the fly skirt: trim a few lengths of Tyvek (etc) up, wrap the edge of the fly with one side of the Tyvek (so it's either side of the silnylon, to protect it, and clip it on with some strong bulldog clips (etc). Once I've upgraded my poles I might look into it before Crimbo.
  • Hi. That’s a great upgrade. Where did yo get the poles please? Regards
  • @ful48j
Thanks for this video. I'm looking to buy a Cloud Peak 2 and might do the pole upgrade. Do your new poles also have the internal shock cord, like the original set of poles? Do the original plastic clips on the tent still easily clop to the new poles?

I have got 2021 verson which is with 8.7 mm poles, a bit different clamps, much better bug protection, significantly reinforced supports for anchor cords, zippers are not YKK anymore unfortunately... so far tried a couple of times with the wind gusts from 40-60 km/h and it seems that it can stand a double wind gust of that.

Great upgrade! How much did you pay for the poles and how much did the weight increase? I guess, the new poles aren't prebent and it looks like the tent has a slightly different shape, isn't it? Does this affect the gap between inner and outer tent?
  • @Fun_Dealer
Great video! I'm planning to do exactly the same to mine. However, I'm struggling to find a site to buy the DAC poles from? Do you have any suggestions?
  • Hi, loving your mod. Desperately trying to find the poles but so far no joy. Do you have a link for them? Loving your videos and the mods great😃

  • @GrizzlyGaz
I know this is an old video but do you have a link to the poles please? I can't find any DAC poles on Ali Express...
  • @DieTabbi

  • @lenrice7482
Fantastic vid - thanks for posting - 1. where did you order the poles? 2. what is the pipe cutter? 3. where do I get the confidence to cut the pole? ha ha cheers again - much appreciated for the vid
  • Do you happen to know the exact length of the finished poles, not having spare hilly ones laying around, I am going to have to buy them. Thanks
  • @dannyboy9817
Great video and thanks for sharing your modifications. I'm seriously looking at getting a cloud peak 2 and this upgrade looks very worthwhile. Just a thought about the gap at the bottom of the flysheet - could you shorten the poles by a few inches so that flysheet finishes flush with the ground?
