The gear ratio its all that matters not necessarily the gear size. The gear ratio for those who don't know is basically the amount of spin that the wheel will do, and you get that number by dividing the number of teeth of the sprocket by the cog. In this case its a 102T sprocket and a 16T cog, so the GR will be 6.3 so for every revolution of the pedals the rear wheel spins 6.3 times. Also you can achieve gear ratios like this by using different sizes of sprockets and cog, like for example you could use a bmx cassette with 9T and match it with a 53T sprocket and you would get around the 6 revolution mark like this bike does but without fabricating any parts.

Looks like a bit of fun especially on down hills :) , it might be a bit hard on the knee joints on the flat though , but as others have said electric assist would make it really cool. Very clever making the gear mate , 10 points for innovation .

I think this bike needs a strong person to generate a high force for starting movement because the primary torque is too high .
  • I have always thought of this combined with a pedal assist 250volts bldc motor hub to give a start and then the cruising will be much easier. Hope you try to make a project with electric pedal assist and try. It would be a great combination

Even if you are able to pedal this bike, a 5 degree incline would feel like 45 degree incline because of the high torque demand of the gears.

Будет тяжело крутить педали. Важнее то, что диск почти касается земли. Высока опасность повредить этот диск при въезде на возвышенность, если это небольшая ступенька. На холм скорее всего не заедет из за того что слишком тяжело крутить педали.
  • When sprocket ratio gets change, there is a change in torque and rpm but power remains same... In short, in this case rpm increased but same time required torque goes high... End result - You get speedy ride but for short time only. After few minits, you get tired by applying more and more power....

При такой передней шестерни, трогание с места и набор скорости будет проблематичен, особенно неподготовленным физически человеком. Изматывания ваших сил, вот и всё!

Beautiful! I always had trouble with speed, but strength was easy. Would've loved this when I biked to the barn I worked at.

I thought there might be flywheel action. The important ratio is pedal speed to wheel speed for how fast you can go. Engineers who design bikes use a lot of data. This might be visually entertaining but there is a reason most bikes have many gears.
  • Buen trabajo 👌 Habrá que probarla en el circuito de volkswagen en Alemania para ver cuantos km/h alcanza en línea recta 😂

The one problem I've always had with mountain bikes is that the highest gear ratio was always way too low when going down steep roads. This solves that and then some! If only there were a derailleur big enough to allow switching to a cog that big...

Your max speed is always going to be limited by aerodynamic drag vs. power input. When the drag equals the available power there will be no further acceleration and that's your top speed. I should say "your theoretical top speed" because if your gearing is too low or too high you may not be able to reach that top speed. This applies to all vehicles, not just human powered vehicles, including aircraft. When drag equals power, you don't go any faster. I once owned a car with 147 hp and a ridiculously high top gear which would give 180 mph at the 6000 rpm redline. Needless to say the car would never reach the redline in top gear or go anywhere near 180 mph, unless it were driven on the moon where there's no air resistance.

I did a similar thing to my mini bike, the little 2HP thing screamed. Just keep in mind the larger diameter drive sprocket the more torque required to turn it.
