South Carolinians understand the risks from rain. We experienced an "atmospheric river" through most of the state with historic rainfall amounts in 2015. After a week of soaking rains, we had a 24-hour event with 15-20 inches of rain through most of the state. That's not 20 inches over 3-4 days, but in ONE day. Dams burst, bridges and roads were washed out, buildings and homes were destroyed, and people died (including some within a mile of our home).
