I’m running a Ethernet cable to my shop.

I give cable burying a chance with my Stihl Chainsaw and the results are surprisingly good.

Good show. I watered like hell for a couple days, then used my flat stainless garden spade do dig down, wiggle back and forth, and get a V-shaped trench. Rocks were a bear, but most moved out of the way. That was $50 cheaper than your way.
  • I admire anyone who will try something out of the ordinary. That's my life obsession and I'm amazed at how many people can't respect "thinking outside the box."
  • Can honestly say I did not expect to see a trench dug with a chainsaw today! Worked better than I expected! (which partly means I had very low expectations!). As a side note, about 30 years ago, I saw a guy dig a trench with a hand-held circular saw (through gravel too!)

Brave experiment, dude! What i know is the dirt will eat away your bar and damage your chain pretty quickly. Next time you may try with a pressure washer, i tried, it works fine.
  • Works. . Got a few old electrics woth old vlades. Why not? Works. Sure killed an old electric saw but got trench. We dont have soil in TX, caliche. Only had to go 20' to shed, direct bury so worked. Wish I had soil to do that shovel trencher spade thing.
