The Bridgerton books are not so great to begin, and were only ever adapted to the screen because Shonda saw the potential somehow. Whoever she had writing for s1 and s2 is clearly not working for Shondaland anymore because s3 was so far below par I found myself wanting to skip scenes. So so disappointing when the pattern for success was clearly right in front of them after creating two highly successful seasons already!

Season 1 we got flashbacks for why Simon is the way he is. Season 2 we got flashback of Anthony witnessing his father’s death and his youngest sibling’s birth. Season 3 no flashbacks. We were just told “oh remember that” “oh I remember how we first met” if you are able to cast younger actors for seasons 1 and 2 why couldn’t they do it for season 3. Imagine how cute a little Penelope meeting little Colin.

I HATED anthony, thought he was an awful brother. Yet, season 2 really turned that around by showing us MORE of him. I LOVED Penelope, i do not justify her actions and dont think she shouldve ended up with collin. However, i was really looking forward to seeing her as a main character but the showrunners just kept her as a side character as well as collin! No one felt like a main character. Collin COULDVE been a more interesting character if they had just added more dialogue about his travels but they went so far with the brooding that it was boring.

17:16 I felt like the writers knew that the actors for Colin and Penelope are not main character actors and that’s fine, but flooding the season with a bunch of side plots for other cast members just does a disservice to the potential we could have had.
  • I really appreciate that you go into how bad what Penelope did was. I think a lot of people are so near-sided and don’t consider the consequences of what lady whistledown does with her gossip rag by revealing these things about people and then having the audacity trying to pull the feminist card while sacrificing other women for her own sake.
  • I feel like they ended this season with no room for Colin and Pen in the future. The Ton knows who LW is. They are married and have a kid. Colin wrote a book. What compelling storyline for them is left? I guess they will go the way of Simon and Daphne and I’m sure Anthony and Kate will fade into the distance as well. So not interested in a bi Benedict or a Lesbian Francesca. They’ve ruined any interest in me watching in the future.

Let's call a spade a spade, Collin is not yet a leading man. His acting also requires more substance. The acting also made it more obvious that the supposed star couple POLIN are quite forgettable. I watched the season waiting to see Violet/Lord Anderson and Kate/Anthony. Something went wrong this season honestly.
  • Jonothan Baily ACTED his ass off and carried that show, and it was so good to watch. Collin's lines are delivered with the same quality as a man ordering breakfast at Macdonalds. He doesn’t have leading him man quality.
  • The show is terrible because the book is terrible - 100 % agree. I very much hope that Marina and the botanist have a beautiful relationship and they both love their kids and die of old age. I hope that Eloise marries Creseda. If they want Marina to die, I hope it's in a way she doesn't want to end her life - like during childbirth (I nearly died and would have definitely without modern medicine) or drowning while rescuing a child (I nearly died rescuing my sister in a lake) or a lung infection, like Katharina Pawlowna, queen of Wurttemberg. I hope her husband griefs and wants to find a new mom for their kids because he thinks he can never be happy without Marina again. A bit like Francesca and John ❤

I truly believe that the only people who like Penelope and Colin as characters are teens/kids or just people who have a lot more maturing and emotional development to do. Their motivations, reactions and decisions are extremely selfish, unempathetic and petulant. The shows justifications for their actions are paper thin and unbelievable. Side note - Penelope’s corset is distracting and really unflattering, it ruins the dresses, clearly hinders her movement and is so unnecessary!
  • There wasn’t much of Anthony and Kate this season. I think having the heads of the family around is fine.

Season 3 was a letdown, a lot of story lines, costumes just awful, the main couple didn't have enough time and specially I am really mad that they just throw lady Whiseldown out
  • Yes, drop the Diamond. I don’t even want the narration anymore.
  • Well, you need to rewatch episode 7 because Penelope did not mention anything about Eloise and Theo. She only scandalized her by mentioning the political radicals. As a strategic attempt to have the Queen disassociate herself with Eloise. So the queen, Would lose interest in having Eloise as a potential lapdog. Which worked. And the Queen didn’t even care. She was still interested in finding out what happened with the wedding of Anthony and Edwina. All of this could’ve been explained if there was a competent writer ✍🏻 for season three who understood the characters and their motivations 😣

I thought Marina was Colin’s cousin in the books. So her dying in Eloise book wasn’t bc of their failed relationship.
  • 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 The Demisexual representation that Bridgerton claim to be giving us. Was nonexistent. The previous show runner (Chris) said that Colin was the sensitive one because he was raised amongst his sisters 👯‍♀️ playing dolls 🎀and the age gap between him and his two older brothers. Makes him less likely to be a womanizer like his older brothers. so in season 1 and 2 they were setting Colin up to be a romantic demisexual. Hence why he wouldn’t kiss Marina🐚. The toxic masculinity story that they wanted to tell they’ve already told it twice with Simon and Anthony and with Simon and Anthony. They had all the legwork 🦵from season 2 to tell the story of toxic masculinity through Anthony. That’s how they could’ve shown us his character growth. At the end of season 2 he said that he will humble himself for Kate. To be the man worthy of her. ‘Great’ you have your toxic masculinity story right there. Season 3 we could have seen Anthony imparting, this Wisdom onto his younger brothers Gregory and Colin. Simon and Anthony are best friends for a reason they’re both touched in head, assholes. It’s understandable, why they are the way they are. We know from the books that Anthony is planning on dying young like his father so he’s trying to avoid attachments. The man is a bit tweaked in the head from taking on so much responsibility at the age of 18 and having to deal with his postpartum depressed grieving mother and all of his 7 siblings. At the end of Anthony season. He learned that the man that he was was no man at all. He was a reprehensible thoughtless Cad. Who needed to humble himself to deserve his soulmate. And you’re telling me the lesson Colin learned in this is be a W*** in 17 cities. 🌆 Colin is a trust fund brat, who gets to travel the world on his rich 🤑 inheritance. Making him a Mr. World international Rake. Makes him extremely selfish. Even more than Simon and Anthony. 🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃 This type of characterization does not make any sense for Colins character. 👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾 The new show-runner decides to redo Simon‘s ark. And just scrap the character that they set up for two seasons. Simon’s ark makes sense for him. It makes sense why he would be so selfish. He is an abused, traumatized man. 👨🏾 Who is touch starved? And affection starved. He’s never really known love devotion safety. Affection & Acceptance. Colin doesn’t struggle from any of that. He grew up in a loving household. He’s always been supported and taken care of. The level of the disrespect of how they destroyed Colins character in comparison to every single other male character. Isn’t unforgivable offense. 1. Anthony at least had the decency to get himself a consistent mistress for years. so he’s not fathering potential bastards to be ignored. As Queen Charlotte has said that’s what happens to them. They are ignored. 2. Benedict doesn’t pay for prostitutes. He sleeps with willing independent empowered women. not systematically oppressed prostitutes. 3. John Sterling is adorable. 4. Lord Debling by comparison, a truly secure man 🧍‍♂️ who stands for his own conviction. 5.Featherington girls husbands are cinnamon rolls The Colin we got. Is undeserving of. The ever faithful ever waiting, Penelope. Loyal to Odysseus wayward wondering 🤔 Man w***ing ass. They had so much potential. The chemistry and story in season 1 and 2 were so cute and refreshing but the writers instead chose to turn it into a typical overused fuckboy redemption story. There are other ways where they could express the 'trying to fit in' storyline but they chose to ruin Colin's character instead. 😤 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️ It’s not fake or faking when you actually sell your integrity down the river. Just to be accepted. And become everything you proclaimed that you were not. You are who you choose to be. When your morals can be compromised just for the sake of pointless validation. What would’ve actually given him a leg 🦵 to stand on is if he wasn’t doing everything he suddenly deemed reprehensible. And unworthy of the title of gentlemen If Colin had felt a bone-deep disdain for this ridiculous society that he had been born into. He would’ve held himself to a different standard, hold on to his Morals even if was just privately. (But he didn’t) 👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽 You would think after everything That happened with Marina 🐚, a truly compassionate man, sensitive, thoughtful & caring wouldn’t risk putting bastards into the world just for them to be abandoned. And never know their father. Imagine if Colin father a daughter who ends up being some man’s whore. And Toy 🧸. and I’m just supposed to respect and understand that I can’t. Is this what you call a man of HONOR? I saw on Instagram a interview that the actor (Luke) didn’t like the whole brothel scene. He said the characterization came out of nowhere for him. Kinda took him by surprise. 😮 It’s one thing to surprise your audience with a character change, but to completely deform the character to point your wondering, who the hell is this creep? Long story short Colins reasoning for becoming this man is empty and hollow and it makes Colin looks empty and hollow. 😕

I actually love this dissect because I haven’t watched anyone talk about the comparison between the books and show. This was an amazing watch. Def following!
