I'm tough on Beatles covers, but I love this.
  • The two strings of the film's title is a theme of duality held throughout the film: the role of the mother and the father figure, two villainous sisters, night and day (the moon and the sun reflected in the Moon King and the sun emblem on Kubo's helmet), and ultimately, the two strings can be seen to represent the two ways: life and death, which are significant to this story.

Just remember, the freaking Trolls movie made more money than this masterpiece just on soundtrack sales, not even factoring in how much the movie itself made at the box office. How did we ever allow that to happen?

This was one of the greatest movies ive ever seen. i hated how horribly tragic a lot of the story was (i wont spoil it other than saying some parts made me literally scream "NOOOOOOO!!!!!!" - while i was in the theater), but the message in the story was so good that i was able to see past my tears and understand what it was trying to tell the audience: THAT DEATH IS NOT THE END. I have NEVER seen any other movie in my entire life that made me feel the way this one did. It was really sad, but epic and amazing at the same time. And I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

GO SEE KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS. DO IT. DO IT NOW. JESUS Laika, you made me feel see goddamn hard I was sobbing in the theater anyway, BUT THEN YOU ENDED IT WITH A HEARTBREAKING SONG BY ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS. AND IN REGINA SKEPTOR'S GORGEOUS VOICE. WHY DO YOU HURT ME THIS WAY.
  • Regina Spektor transports the Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" to ancient Japan with her haunting rendition of the George Harrison anthem, arranged by Dario Marianelli.

This movie is so meaningful to me and this song especially. My nephew and I would watch it together, while my mother was in the hospital. When she passed my nephew sang her this song. It will forever have a place in his heart. There’s times when he can’t even bear to listen to it, other times he needs to listen to it.
  • I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping While my guitar gently weeps I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping Still my guitar gently weeps. I don't know why nobody told you How to unfold your love I don't know how someone controlled you They bought and sold you. I look at the world and I notice it's turning While my guitar gently weeps With every mistake we must surely be learning Still my guitar gently weeps. I don't know how you were diverted You were perverted too I don't know how you were inverted No one alerted you. I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping While my guitar gently weeps Look at you all Still my guitar gently weeps.
  • She could sing German beer-drinking songs and it would sound sublime. Her voice is amazing.

This song makes me want a full Beatles album covered with japanese folk instruments.
  • I watched Kubo and the Two Strings on opening night and I can tell you right now it is absolutely beautiful! I have always adored the claymation style but the story of this whole movie is beautiful. The characters, the art style and the entire setting of the movie was incredible. It was definitely a movie worth going to see! You do not need to go out and see it right away, but it truly is a beautiful creation and i applaud everyone who worked on it. I'm in love with this song as well, having been a Beatles fan since I was little, but Regina Spektor's voice is beautiful and I've always admired it <3

...because "While my shamisen gently weeps" just doesn't quite cut it.
  • @giabea.
I knew I recognized her voice. Amazing movie, amazing soundtrack.
  • The song fits so perfectly within the context of the trailers! I can barely contain my excitement!!

Since I just watched a SECOND time today, I know why the theme revolves around eyes or whatever. Eyes are the windows to the soul.
