  • 【His Majesty declared opening】 On July 23, 2021 (the 3rd year of Reiwa era in the traditional Japanese calendar), His Majesty the Emperor paid an imperial visit to the Japan National Stadium and the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games was held. His Majesty declared the opening in accordance with the Olympic Charter. The charter states that the head of state of the host country make an opening declaration and the fixed phrase. The Olympic Games will be held in Japan for the fourth time following the 1964 Summer Tokyo Games, the 1972 Winter Sapporo Games, and the 1998 Winter Nagano Games. In Tokyo and Sapporo the opening declaration was made by Emperor Showa(Hirohito), and in Nagano was made by His Majesty the Emperor Emeritus (The emperor of a generation ago, Akihito) . Japan set the record for the number of Olympics held in Asia, and at the same time became the only country to hold the Summer Olympics more than once in Asia.

Hirohito witnessed the rise of Japanese empire, the two atomic bombs, the collapse of the Japanese empire, an Olympic and the creation of anime. What a life lmao

Interestingly enough, Hitler's broadcast for the Olympics is one of the earliest things that could be picked from outer space. So, Aliens would hear Hitler pretty much saying welcome.

Berlin 1936. Probably the most iconic Olympic Games in the History and the beginning of many of the things we see in the Olympics nowadays.

2:20 For all the people who are not from Mexico, 10 days before the opening of the Olympics, one of the worst massacres in the history of Mexico took place On October 2, 1968, more than 300 students were assassinated at the hands of the army on the orders of the high command of the government, including the president. During the following days, the news was completely censored by the government so that the Olympics would not be canceled. It was a sad and shameful time for Mexico

The queen in 1976: Sure I'll open the Olympics! The queen a few decades later: I'll f*ckin do it again
  • @AdistuffRBX
Fun fact: 2 axis leaders have opened the olympics
  • @CCheukKa
Due to her immortality, Queen Elizabeth is officially the person who has opened the most Olympics games ever in history and in the future

There’s something weird about seeing Hirohito after WW2. Even after the Axis defeat and his other two allies meeting their fates before the wars end, he remained a popular public figure for the rest of his life through the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s

Rest of the world: we need notes to remember what we gonna say. Greece: We invented this, we created this, we know this by heart.
  • @maogu1999
I bet the greeks felt real proud when they finally got to host the Olympiad again.

3:29 what a powerful speech I'm in tears Edit: (wtf I can hear it now)
  • @D88111
The difference between A.H opening and the other German chancellor is amazing lol
  • @DrHydra47
As a Japanese hearing the emperor hirohito speak normal Japanese sounds very unusual probably he almost never used regular Japanese and used the monarch dialect his whole life
  • Not only has Queen Elizabeth II been alive to see most of the Olympic Games, but she’s the only one to have read the opening speeches the most, and on top that most of the countries which have hosted the Olympics have her as the head of state e.g(Canada and Australia) Edit: I didn’t realize that this comment would get so many likes😂
