Stephen Bauman is a master. Really recommend subscribing to his channel. He's the rare artist who has great intellectual insight, historical knowledge, and superb drawing/painting skills. One of his best recommendations was the book Art & Fear Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking. For all the many angst-filled dread, depression, and lack of motivation for making art videos on YouTube, it is nothing like this book which offers solutions or methods in an intelligent, respectful, and emotional way.

I think the most impressive thing about Stephen is his ability to explain and teach(I think the Proko crew in general does a phenomenal job picking artist who can do this). Stephen though has a very specific way he does it and it makes me feel like he was raised by teachers haha. The transfer of skills and knowledge to a teachable thing is not easy.

this is an amazing video. Stephen is one articulate human. Thanks PROKO!
  • This demonstration with clear explanatory commentary is pure gold and very much appreciated.
  • @AlfredEiji
Thank you for this! I really needed a reminder and a method to simply measure more. The center point really helps a lot with measuring too. It’s nice to have an objective static point from which to base all the other landmarks.
  • I was actually thinking about a tutorial like this two days ago. I like drawing portraits and I'm finally ready to learn portions this way

One of the best instructional videos on drawing faces I have ever seen, looking at the bigger picture is important (no pun intended). This is the way I used to draw before I was trying to learn any of the methods. I never really liked them because they don't feel natural and it was easy for me to get lost in construction of lines. I could spend hours tweaking little lines just to be dissappointed with the result.

Can’t wait to utilize this in my everyday drawing! Thank you bauman!
  • @Jecht1221
His method seems very efficient and fun. Had I bought taught like this instead of measuring and measuring, I might have stuck to figure drawing.
  • I've been studying a lot of head proportion now, and I wanted to look for another methods other than the Loomis method I think this video will help me. Thanks!

Well, obviously can't afford the course because of currency. But even this video alone was really helpful. I've been following him since highschool and his works always inspired me.

I so wished I had this tutorial and more in the 1970's. I did great back then but lacked visual information. Books lacked such until atelier training became popular. I did not realized I could not draw well until the 1990's !!!
  • Awesome and nice drawing, thank you, I hope you are always healthy and happy my friend
