Elro is a rapper from south Wales who became well-known in the grime scene back in 2011. Upon releasing his Warm Up Session on SBTV, he was thrust into the spotlight, before being signed by Mike Skinner (The Streets).

As the record deal began to fall apart, Elro started suffering with a disorder called Depersonalisation, and crashed out of the music scene.

Today, he's back in the studio recording his first single in years and I recently caught up with him to talk about his career and his mental health.

Woah, I had no idea he had depersonalisation (DP/DR). I was diagnosed with it as a teenager (triggered by sudden stress, not drugs) and he described it really well. I remember going for walks and feeling leaves and tree bark but my brain couldn't comprehend that I was physically touching them. I also felt no connection to any people on Earth, as if I was alone in a goldfish bowl. It's like a mild trip that you can't escape. Eleven years on, it has calmed down but it can still be made worse by things such as artificial light and too much screen time so I'm careful with how I live my life. Glad to see Elro is on the up, too. Top man!

I can relate to this guy massively with the mental health side of things and I absolutely love the fact he does music like he's such a character and a good bloody guy

Keep at it Elro, those who know what they are really hearing will know you have been putting out sickness for bare time. Some people don't get your unorthodox style, others just get hung up on appearance. However, when you do your thing on point, you are a master of your craft and a lot us know that. Keep fighting the demons and keep grinding at your craft 🙌

Wow... I always knew elro had something deep going on but I didn't know he had so much in common with me who dealt with aspergers for 29 years before diagnosis
