  • I was a kid when the Marlins won the 1997 World Series. Lots of memories. This was their first of the two World Series titles won by the Marlins. The only made it to the playoffs twice. All were wildcard berths and all resulting World Series titles in 1997 and 2003.
  • I know it’s also a football stadium but it’s INSANE how many people were there.

A night of firsts. The first-ever WS title for the Marlins. Miami's first-ever professional baseball championship. The first-ever team from Florida to win the WS. And also the first-ever on-field presentation of the Commissioner's Trophy.

Fun fact: This was the loudest recorded crowd reaction to any sporting event in US history. It reached decibels that were yet to be seen. Manny Ramirez said of the fans — “I couldn’t believe the noise. I have never seen fans so loud, and I’ve been to Manchester United games. We have never seen anything quite like this. What an amazing sound. Wow, that was great 😂!”
  • Just imagine if the team wasnt destroyed a few weeks later.
  • My dad was bob Becker the marlins tech guy and when him and team won he said that was the happiest moment of his life

Watched this with my dad when I was 9 years old. I’ll never forget that moment and I’ll always get goosebumps.

3:25:23 .... one of the single greatest moments of my life.. and I was 11 years old :-)
  • I don't know about any of you, but, I sure do miss when NBC used to show the MLB playoffs and World Series. I always felt that they did such a better job of broadcasting the world series than FOX. I'm sorry, but, Joe Buck is boring. 20 years of FOX exclusively broadcasting the Series. I wish NBC or ABC would take over the broadcast rights.
  • I was born in Plantation FL in 1986 and moved to Las Vegas in October of 1997. Literally moved to Vegas I believe a week or 2 before the World Series. Went to dozens of games at the old Joe Robbie Stadium. Wish I could have lived in Florida a few more weeks to celebrate the 1997 World Series Championship in my home state!!

I grew up in South Florida and my dad let me stay up late to watch this game and it was amazing!

As a DBacks fan I feel the Marlins are partly to thank for our eventual 2001 title by showing that an expansion team could quickly become a serious contender. Even after our mediocre inaugural season in 98, we were able to land a bunch of quality veterans who were still chasing their first ring. Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Mark Grace, Steve Finley, Tony Womack, Reggie Sanders, etc. Wonder whether those guys would've taken AZ seriously if Florida hadn't won it all a few years earlier.

I guess we will just all ignore the fact that Counsell never touched the 2nd base at 2:15:03 for the out. They called Williams out anyways, then Thome came up and hit a single, which should've been an RBI, with Williams scoring. making the score 3 to 1, and game would've been over in bottom of the 9th.

All these years later rewatching this game, I totally forgot about Tony Fernandez letting that groundball slip past him in the 9th...setting up the game winning hit, which was singularly sweet for Florida.
