In this lecture Professor Kristin Beach, MSN, BSN, RN will be discussing Hemodialysis. Hemodialysis is a procedure where a dialysis machine and a special filter called an artificial kidney, or a dialyzer, are used to clean your blood. In order to receive dialysis, a minor surgery is performed to the arm to create an arteriovenous shunt.

  • It’s interesting to hear it takes 6 months for fistula use. Where I live it takes 6-8 weeks of healing/maturation before we start cannulation. Less time for a graft. Great lecture.

    holding BP meds are definitely a case by case basis. I have some patient who will be SBP>200 throughout the whole tx and sometimes even present s/s of HTN if they hold their BP meds; for these patient's (who are typically on 2-4 BP meds of different classifications) we hold and try to add one a week until we can get a safe trend of getting their post tx BP around 140 SBP; also we cannot hold something like coreg if its being given for arrythmia control
