About 20 years ago one of my favorite neighbors who was very healthy, always riding his bike all the time. He had just retired and was only about 57. He was push mowing in August and got overheated and collapsed. The EMT's came out and revived him, cooled him down and gave him a stern warning to not go back outside. He didn't listed and he collapsed again and couldn't be revived! It was heartbreaking for his wife and children!

Good to hear your discussion on heat exhaustion! The bear got me a few years ago and you are correct that it recurs easier once you had the bear. My symptoms were major fatigue and cramping in my hands and legs. The key is hydration days before and during the time you are working in the heat. I have found hydration with water and sports drinks helps avoid the bear. I am working in the garden at sunup and have installed floodlights around the garden where I can work before daylight to avoid the heat.
  • Great show! Thanks for your concern, brother Greg! I think I’ve got about 10 years on you (69 in August) and that heat tolerance doesn’t get any better! These micro fiber “cool rags” around your neck really help too! Head, neck, and shoulders are key “thermostats” for the body. Keep them warm in the cold and cool in the hot and it really helps! A drink for me, a little on the head, a little on the neck! I’ve danced with that dang bear a few times and it ain’t fun! Light headedness is usually my first indicator. Interesting taste test on those maters! Lot of truth to what Mama used to say, “you eat first with your eyes!” Thanks for these great shows, sharing your knowledge, and fantastic products!
