Both are masterpieces, asking me which is better is asking me which one is my favorite
  • These are both amazing games. I can not pick one over the other. Nier has the deep philosophical story, while Xenoblade was imaginative and surprised me at every turn. Both soundtracks are amazing, and both games have stuck with me long after completing them.

Imagine a game made by Takahashi and Taro together: 🤯

I love Nier Automata and got all the main endings, but it didn't impact me as much as I thought it would, based on what I'd heard about it before playing. Didn't quite reach the "life-changing" tier like Xenoblade and SMT, for me.

First off, let me state, I like both games, and I think they should BOTH be played (and listened to). That said, I like Xenoblade Chronicles more. I enjoy the exploration, the much more diverse way to enhance my character and party (both through the gems, and visually through the glamour system, not to mention I can change my party and what skills they use), while I get a LOT of areas to explore, finding hidden treasure, secret areas (and awesome views), and named monsters, the thrill and challenge are phenomenal. Its massive, it honestly feels like a single player mmo. Nier on the other hand... is a futuristic sword wielding... Bayonetta, that exchanges angels for robots while adding a Dark Souls 1 level of map design (and again, an awesome soundtrack).

I wouldn’t really describe Xenoblade’s story as simple as that. Since it’s the Xeno series there is a lot more depth and themes to it. Like no one ever talks about the themes of Monad with this game. Aka where the Monado gets its name from. Seriously look up Monad and you’ll realize a lot of elements in Xenoblade’s story correlate to it. The sword isn’t not just called that because it sounds cool. I do also love how it takes similar ideas from Xenogears but gives its own flair. Like Zanza pretty much is the same as Deus but actually has a personality. Both have the same goal of creating humanity for its own ends.
  • I totally agree that Xenoblade is a better FFXII. That's probably why it replaced FFXII as my favorite game. Combat is kinda confusing, but I love exploring the gorgeous world. Haven't played Automata since I want to play Replicant first. I do like me some psychological plot stuff though.

Fun fact, in an interview actually about Stellar Blade, Yoko Taro has mentioned how Nier Automata is close to a retelling of Evangelion, to the point where he said theres not much originality in Nier Automata

    What a battle 👏, I can't choose 😮

In the mid 2000s I got the MMORPG bug but getting into them was not possible for me financially. I wanted a single player MMO experience on a console and FF12 and Xenoblade ended up giving me just that and blew me away, BUT (read in Erick Landon voice/accent) as much as I love RPGs and want them to stay traditional, Action has always been a more attractive genre for me. Nier is much much more an Action Hack n Slash than an RPG, and I love Action games that give you a wide variety of combat options and styles that you dont need to commit to any. The combat is very engaging, easy to get into and get by with just mashing, but has depth to allow for cleaner faster kills with skill. The story one of the best and unique I've played, at least in the way I interpret it where the E ending is not the true one... Nier Automata for me.

I almost wonder if Nier Automata should have went against Xenoblade 2. They came out around a similar time and both have themes of nihilism. Having seen both stories and only played XC2 I do prefer 2’s approach more because it just felt like it had a lot more hope in its story.

xc3 was peak! chain attack music will forever get me hyped to do some serious damage and the dlc story was even more amazing!

I haven't played enough Nier Automata yet to give a vote. Xenoblade Chronicles was a great but not outstanding action RPG for me. It was too questdriven for me (as the entire series) and its battle combat was hard to get into for me (sequels did it better). However the visuals and especially the music made up for it. Also it featured a main protagonist who got its spotlight and isn't overshadowed by pretty and busted girls. One thing I also liked about Xenoblade 1: it was fastpaced It was A LOT shorter than the sequels, but it felt complete storywise. No meaningless and overlong coversations which bored and distracted me.
  • Never played Nier, but I loved XC1 and X. 2 and 3 never clicked for me though. Can't say xc vs nier
  • As a completionist i loved the tight and small world of nier. But xenoblades side quests completely derailed my experience. I felt like nothing had happened and i was already 10 hours deep on filler side content 😊

It's gotta be Nier Automata for me. The story is so impactful and I like how the gameplay is a unique blend of different styles. I'm just personally not too into the combat of Xenoblade, though for me Xenoblade 1 combat I enjoy more than the 2nd game that overcomplicated it
  • I dont have a favorite. Anything that is related to a/j/s/rpg im in, just that simple.
  • @agamersinsanity
Both games are amazing but i still would say Xenoblade Chronicles due to the fact it has a nice story. The combat isn't the best compared to XC2 which improved it a lot.
