How To Use A Knitting Nancy

Published 2024-07-21
You may have seen these little knitting dollies in a charity shop. They have been around for many years in different forms. I know them as a knitting Nancy.

This video shows the easy way of creating braids/I cords using the Knitting Nancy.

I hope you enjoy it ❤️

  • We called it spool knitting. Our mom made the spools. This reminded me of learning something new as a child

When I was little I was in knitting club in school, we’d do this on our fingers, didn’t know they had a tool for it, super cool
  • As a child my grandpa used to hammer 4 nails in the top of a wooden spool and it was called " corking" .

Thank you for this video, I bought one of those 2 years ago and didn't know how to use it, very helpfull
  • Very often I think that my Iphone can read my thoughts: just yesterday evening I was in trouble because I could not remember how to use the same device you show (not a pretty wooden doll but a simple wooden spool with four tiny nails). And now I have find your video explaining it: you save me !! Thank you very much, you are great !! I am going to do legs and tail of a small crochet toy for my cat, and perhaps I will do also a new crocheted octopus. Bye !👌🐈🐙

I was given a Knitting Nancy as a child back in the 80s and I still have and use it to this day. I’ve never heard anyone else use the name until now though so have just referred to it as French Knitting. Very to happy to see Nancy finally getting the credit she deserves!

Thank you for sharing! In german it’s called "Strickliesl", I have learned it as a child and loved it! But I have never done it again because I startet knitting and crocheting!😂 Maybe it’s time for a revival! ❤
  • Thank you for sharing! I’ve never seen one of these before! Very cute! Best wishes for your channel ❤💐

Brings back memories of me sitting with my grandma when I was little. BUT… this looks and sounds like the dentist picking my teeth! YIKES! Trigger warning for metal sounds. 😁

I heard that there were different stitches that you can do on this tool. Do you teach that?

I had no idea that's what it's for. Just thought it was a weird kids toy. 🤷
  • Thinking about materials useful for a home made Knitting Nancy, I noticed that K.N. is very similar to wooden handles of skipping rope. So, if someone has an old skipping rope can add to the handles some little nail and eventually paint and decorate these new devices (obviously after taking off the old rope).🧵🧶
