My dad's first big win of his career. Sadly he passed in 1998. If anyone has other footage of him racing, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share it with me!
  • The 70's and 80's were the best ever times for drag racing. AHRA, IHRA, NHRA, match racing, 50+ cars trying to qualify in the pro classes. Great times. I grew up at Great Lakes Dragway in WI and remember many great shows.

I remember in the early 80's seeing Leo Clark in a Vega running in IHRA quick rod/street rod class that was at the top of the qualifying order running 8.20's which was just a shade slower than pro stock cars then. They were obviously getting their feet wet in preparation for a full time pro stock effort shown in this video.

Animal Jim was match racing at my local track in Northern Iowa in the late 80's and I swear that Fairmont was held together with bailing wire, bubblegum, and duct tape. Heck of a nice guy though.

I spent a lot of money at speed unlimited in my misspent youth MIR is one of the rare 1/4 mile tracks around here, most are/were 1/8

What what what and let me say that one more time the term mountain motor has a lot to do with those back woods boys that built blocks using the most cubic inches with the hopes of it staying together at high rpms you gotta know where to stand a blow proof housing and side plates are a half ass attempt to contain metal fragments when shit goes wrong 6 to 8 hundred cubic inches leaves the cylinder walls a little thin

How about those Pontiac Camaros, or wait....were they Chevy Trans Ams. How can you announce a drag race and NOT know a Camaro from a Firebird/Trans Am??? LMAO!
