  • I discovered that the most important part of organizing is maintenance. Taking the extra few seconds to put something back is golden.
  • @anne-marie896
I suffer from "paralysis by analysis" and find it difficult to start something until I figure it all out.

I had to laugh about piles. My husband says Iā€™m a ā€œpilotā€ā€¦ā€¦ā€Pile it here, pile it thereā€. Thank you for such great content. You are a joy to watch.
  • @catw5294
LOL - loved your beat-up wall. Not internet pretty but the lunch boxes and back packs aren't in a pile on the floor and you know where to find somthing in them at 8 pm at night instead of searching the house for where the back pack might have been dropped. It is simple and convenient and no one has to think about it. That is really how organization should work

And I am retired and like I said pushing 70 thereā€™s only so much you can do in a day and then if you have a very busy day, it takes another day to heal but I think my biggest job is trying to get rid of stuff

You are a delight, Kallie! I am still trying to organize at 76, and you are a big help!

Love your videos! One of my biggest organizing mistakes: I organized our pantry, but didnā€™t put labels on the baskets. I just assumed everyone would see what the baskets contained and theyā€™d keep like items together. Nope. Chaos won after only a week or so. I was so discouraged I didnā€™t fix it for a couple months. Now that the baskets are labeled everyone knows what goes where. Itā€™s been successfully organized for over a year now. šŸ˜

For upkeep, don't walk back & forth in rooms, have a basket. Anything that doesn't belong in your current room goes on the basket. When you move on to the next room, you take from the basket & put in if necessary. This way you don't get distracted before your room is done.

I read the book "The One Thing" which helps. It is about focusing on doing one thing to completion instead of scattered results. Asking yourself, what is the one thing I can do that by doing it will make my life easier. For me, making sure to clean out the kitchen sink, emptying dishwasher is it.

  • A pile is where I put the stuff that I donā€™t know what to do with, donā€™t want to toss, and think ā€œhey, Iā€™ll fix it laterā€ā€¦ā€¦knowing full well that Iā€™ll probably never look at or touch again, unless Iā€™m desperately digging for an all important thingy-paper needed right now because my life depends on itā€¦..then the pileā€™s a mess to never be touched again. What needs to happen is for someone to invent ā€œthe smart paperā€ that knows when itā€™s contents are no longer of any use, and voluntarily vanishes.

What a timely video for me! Two months ago we had our carpets cleaned, we them moved the kids from one bedroom to another, that eliminated our guest room so that furniture ended up in the office/craft room and it is a MESS! I pride myself in organization but you would NEVER know looking at that room. Iā€™ve been in there a million times to get it organized and am so overwhelmed I leave and close the door as tight as possible. šŸ¤Ŗ Tomorrow Iā€™m going to clean the desk. Thatā€™s all. Just the desk. Wish me luck! Thank you for such great content, I love what you put out!
  • @bettyheil232
OMG! You hit the nail on the head for me with the piling. I am so guilty of piling. I love (and will now use) the saying ā€œpile pow wowā€! šŸ˜‚. I need more ā€œpile pow wowsā€ in my life. Thank you - I love your videos - so realistic.
  • @Joyfillied
Iā€™ve been decluttering my closet for daaaays, reorganizing it, & adding decor (fake plants, for example), and Iā€™m LOVING IT!!! Itā€™s one of the smallest spaces in the house (think of regular sized shower or so - maybe slightly bigger), and itā€™s becoming one of my FAVORITE spaces in the entire house!! šŸ˜‚ā¤
  • Guilty guilty guilty of alll the things! I was doing so well a few months ago. Then I got distracted and was sick and now Iā€™m back to being overwhelmed. So you just gave me the boost Iā€™ve needed to move forward. Thank you ā¤
  • @fionaschiffl8065
Iā€™ve been getting rid of polystyrene and cardboard boxes over the last few months and filling the bins each week. Couldnā€™t believe how much there was as Iā€™ve been decluttering for 7yrs and Iā€™m organised. (Some was left over moving boxes.) Also getting rid of the ā€˜what ifā€™ stuff and thatā€™s been 100% trash rate too. Itā€™s been helping me go through what I thought was sentimental too. My op shop is going to have to open an 80s section. So freeing!

I've been talking about "purging" my clutter for years now. Thank you for making this video - it was difficult to watch the entire thing, but I knew that I needed to hear it. Smaller tasks are definitely the way to go for me. I just have to go into a room with blinders on - looking at an entire room that needs a lot of work instantly triggers my "maybe tomorrow" response.
  • @amymathews4995
Iā€™m in my 50s and my children are all over the age of 18 and I still have all the problems you just described I wish I had had someone like you when they were six 10 and 14! I wouldā€™ve been so much kinder to myself
  • @magietagie
It makes me feel so much better to know, that I am not the only one that makes these mistakes! I need to remember that itā€™s all a process and itā€™s an ongoing one at that!
  • @kellyhurst6808
Thank you for talking about false expectations on Pinterest versus reality. It's a real source of frustration and a sense of wasted time for me when trying to declutter / organise a space and it doesn't look picture perfect! I also liked how you showed your space with hooks for your kids' bags and talked about functionality and needs over anything else. It's definitely something I needed to hear. Thank you! ā¤
