"Attack first upbeat with a relaxed approach" 6:51. If you want to take your players to the next level, you need to define those upbeats as well instead of just throwing them in, relaxed or not. Watch a top level line play a simple 8's split and just focus on those upstrokes. They are going to be as evenly spaced and defined as the notes themselves, with the mallets coming out an 8th note before their actual note. If your kids have the ability to do things like that, these kinds of splits basically play themselves.

Hello I just recently got into my high school bass line and I’ve never played bass before what do you think is a good way for a beginner to learn splits in fast exercises

When I try to play the upbeats on the split singles, I tend to start out on the correct rhythm, but subconsciously go back to the downbeat. For example, if I'm playing 32nds, I would start out on player 2s part, but morph back into normal 16th notes with the metronome. I don't know how to fix this. I've gone super slow, but no matter what, it's like I've been programmed to play on the metronome clicks no matter what.

I went to the store and was really wanting to find the black bdg pad, is there anywhere I could buy that or is it custom? I did buy a tank though
