Thanks for sharing these tips! As a life long Alaskan being prepared is the best defense in the wilderness. Besides carrying pepper spray, noise makers, and a gun.. if you're going into the "bush" it's very important to have one of the GPS locators like a Garmin or Spot so you can signal for help & people can find you if something goes wrong. Also having a first aid kit... a well stocked first aid kit is crucial because you can't always rely on someone coming to the rescue and being able to patch yourself or someone else up until you can get to medical aid really can make the difference. Bonus tip get some quick clot to stop bleeding & add that to your kit.

I've had a bear check me out when deer hunting up in a tree stand when it smelled a granola bar I had for breakfast.

I had an encounter with a black bear while fishing in Northern Maine. At the end of the day, the bear was waiting by my truck, clearly wanting my fish, likely because someone had been feeding it.
