Flying QANTAS A380: Should You Upgrade to Premium Economy MEL to LAX?

Published 2024-05-01
Yelana and I struggled to click the button when booking these flights. Premium economy is 2-3x the price of economy and we didn't know if it would be worth the extra money.
So, we decided to film the whole thing so you can come on the ride with us and see if premium economy is worth the cost in 2024.

Nice video. FYI, the reason there are no bins on the side of your seat is because there is a plugged door at that seat. It’s actually a door they no longer need to use with the new lay out do that cover it and add a row of seats. Check out pics of the A380 and you’ll see.
  • PE is a good compromise between Business &Economy. I’m going to Florida in July. SYD-DFW-MCO. I managed to snag Business class on sale, and the return flights in Business the whole way… only a couple of hundred more expensive than the most expensive PE option. Did you work out the trick with the pillows in PE? There is a long slit across the back of the pillowcase. This allows you to slide the pillow over those winged headrests, so your pillow won’t fall down but it will bend with the headrest. Also, the aisle seat in PE… the wall can drop down so you can turn your legs and put your feet into the aisle when you go to stand up. It makes getting up easier, and you don’t need to ‘pull’ on the seat in front as you do.

I'd love to see you do a review of a propper business class seat. enjoyed this review too. We fly PE with BA regularly and have Business booked for later in the year, we regularly fly to the same places, so it will be interesting to compare. Here in the UK if you fly from remote airports you don't pay any of the taxes you would pay from london or edinburgh, so the tax savings make the upgrades free lol 3k$au is a fair belt, but it was 14 hours and thats a long time to be squished in economy. 3k Au$ is about £1500 return and thats cheap from a UK perspective on a 14 hour flight. MEl to LHR is $1800AUS one way

Playa del Carmen and Cancun is not that great. It’s very touristy, very expensive and the beaches are just ok. Go to Merida in yucatan. Easy to get to from Cancun if your flights are from there. In Merida there are some great Mayan ruins that are not touristy. And quiet cenotes. It’s a really nice town. Oaxaca is also amazing. Food is great in Oaxaca. Cool art scene also. We just got back. Also flew premium on the airbus. Have a great time!

How was the recline on the seats? Same as economy? Also make sure you go to Zion N.P.

Real cutlery?! I’d be happy to eat with my fingers if it meant that I’d be able to sleep for part of the 13 hour flight.
